President Donald J. Trump on Saturday issued a sharp rebuke of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, accusing both leaders of “inciting insurrection” through their public responses to a Border Patrol agent-involved shooting and the unrest that followed in Minneapolis.
In a forceful statement, Trump said state and local officials had abandoned law enforcement, mischaracterized the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and were now attempting to place blame on federal agents as violence and disorder escalated in the city.

The comments came after a Saturday press conference held by Mayor Frey following the shooting of an armed assailant by Border Patrol agents.
During that appearance, Frey directed his remarks toward the White House and issued a demand to the president.
“End this immigration operation, and safety will be restored in the city,” Frey said.

Trump responded publicly on Truth Social, rejecting the mayor’s demand and defending federal immigration enforcement efforts operating in Minnesota.
“LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB! 12,000 Illegal Alien Criminals, many of them violent, have been arrested and taken out of Minnesota,” Trump wrote.
“If they were still there, you would see something far worse than you are witnessing today!”
The president argued that Frey and Walz were escalating anti-ICE rhetoric in an effort to deflect attention from a separate federal investigation. Trump asserted that the continued criticism of federal law enforcement was being used as a “Cover up” for what he described as a large-scale Somali fraud scheme currently under investigation by the Department of Justice.
In an extended statement posted to Truth Social, Trump questioned the handling of public funds in Minnesota and tied the issue to the broader unrest.
“Why does Ilhan Omar have $34 Million Dollars in her account? And where are the Tens of Billions of Dollars that have been stolen from the once Great State of Minnesota?” Trump wrote.
“We are there because of massive Monetary Fraud, with Billions of Dollars missing, and Illegal Criminals that were allowed to infiltrate the State through the Democrats’ Open Border Policy.”
Trump said federal authorities were focused on recovering the missing funds and prosecuting those responsible.
“We want the money back, and we want it back, NOW,” he wrote.
“Those Fraudsters who stole the money are going to jail, where they belong! This is no different than a really big Bank Robbery.”
The president continued by linking the unrest in Minneapolis to what he characterized as an attempt to divert public attention.
“Much of what you’re witnessing is a COVER UP for this Theft and Fraud,” Trump wrote.
Trump accused both Frey and Walz of deliberately inflaming tensions in the city rather than restoring order.
“They are inciting Insurrection, with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric!” Trump wrote. He added that the two officials should instead be focused on locating what he described as billions of dollars stolen from taxpayers.
“Instead, these sanctimonious political fools should be looking for the Billions of Dollars that has been stolen from the people of Minnesota, and the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB!”
Trump’s remarks came as Minneapolis continued to experience unrest following the Border Patrol shooting, which involved an armed assailant.
Federal investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, while city leaders and federal officials have offered sharply different accounts of the events and their aftermath.
The president’s comments highlighted the deepening divide between the White House and Minnesota’s state and local leadership over immigration enforcement and public safety.
Trump made clear that federal immigration operations would continue despite opposition from city officials, and he rejected calls to halt those efforts as a condition for restoring order.
The clash between federal authorities and Minnesota officials shows no sign of easing as investigations continue and tensions in the city remain high.
