A shooting involving federal law enforcement officers reportedly occurred Saturday in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the intersection of East 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, according to law enforcement sources cited by Fox News.

The incident is believed to have involved Border Patrol agents, though authorities said details remain under investigation.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Fox News that the suspect involved in the incident was armed at the time of the encounter.

DHS said the individual possessed a firearm and two magazines when federal agents engaged.

Local and state authorities moved quickly to respond following reports of the shooting.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said securing the scene was a priority and emphasized the need for cooperation between federal and state agencies during the investigation.

“The scene must be secured by local law enforcement for preservation of evidence.

We expect the federal government to allow the BCA to process the scene,” Moriarty said.

Moriarty also asked members of the public to assist investigators by submitting any photos or video footage captured during or immediately after the incident.

The Minneapolis Police Department said it was working to confirm additional information while urging residents to stay clear of the area as authorities responded.

“We are aware of reports of another shooting involving federal law enforcement in the area of 26th Street W and Nicollet Ave. We are working to confirm additional details. We ask the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate area. Please follow the City’s social media channels for updates,” the Minneapolis Police Department told Fox News Digital.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz reacted strongly to the shooting, condemning the incident and calling on the Trump administration to halt federal operations in the state.

Walz said he had spoken with the White House following the shooting and accused federal agents of engaging in dangerous conduct.

“I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” Walz wrote on X. “The president must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

Border Patrol Commander gives an update and takes questions:

Minnesota’s two U.S. senators also weighed in.

Sen. Tina Smith described the shooting as “catastrophic” and demanded that federal immigration authorities withdraw from the area so local police could manage the response.

Smith called on ICE to “leave now so MPD can secure the scene and do their jobs.”

Sen. Amy Klobuchar also issued a statement directed at the Trump administration and congressional Republicans, urging immediate action.

“To the Trump administration and the Republicans in Congress who have stood silent: Get ICE out of our state NOW,” Klobuchar wrote on X.

There has been another shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis and I am working to get more information. I will update as soon as possible. To the Trump administration and the Republicans in Congress who have stood silent: Get ICE out of our state NOW.

The shooting occurred amid heightened tensions in Minnesota related to federal immigration enforcement activity.

Protests and public demonstrations have intensified in recent weeks, particularly following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good on Jan. 7.

That incident sparked protests in Minneapolis and across the country and prompted renewed criticism of the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement strategy.

State and local officials, including Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, have been vocal in their opposition to the federal operation.

After the January shooting involving Good, Frey publicly condemned ICE and demanded the agency leave the city.

Walz and Frey, along with other Minnesota officials, have argued that the presence and tactics of federal immigration officers have contributed to instability and public safety concerns.

Federal officials, however, have maintained that agents are operating within the scope of federal law and responding to armed threats when encountered.

As of Saturday evening, no further information had been released regarding injuries, arrests, or the identity of the suspect involved in the shooting.

Authorities said the situation remains fluid as investigators from multiple agencies work to establish the full sequence of events.

Officials continue to urge the public to avoid the area while the investigation remains active and to rely on official updates from city and state authorities.
