Over 350,000 Virginians voted in the 2025 election prior to the news that Democratic Attorney General candidate Jay Jones had endorsed political violence, according to early voting data.

News broke on Oct. 3 that Jones had sent text messages in 2o22 to Republican House Delegate Carrie Coyner saying he would give former Republican Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert “two bullets to the head” and urinate on his grave. The text messages were first reported by National Review.

By that day, 359,379 early votes had already been cast, according to Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) data.

Comparatively, only 185,119 early votes had been cast early ahead of the 2021 statewide elections.

Just two days before Jones’ text messages endorsing political violence were made public, the Richmond-Times Dispatch revealed he had capitalized on a reckless driving charge by logging community service hours with his own political action committee (PAC), Meet Our Moment.

291,420 votes had already been cast by that point, more than double the 144,721 votes recorded at the same stage in the 2021 election. (RELATED: ‘Two Bullets To The Head’: Jay Jones’ Alleged Violent Fantasies Don’t Seem To Bother His Endorsements)

Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) data that includes early in-person votes and returned mail ballots for the November 2025 election.

Although VPAP data doesn’t reveal the party affiliation of voters, it does compare turnout to each district’s partisan lean.

Meanwhile, Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center released its latest poll Monday on Virginia’s statewide races, showing that Democratic candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general continue to hold leads over Republicans, though their margins are narrowing. The poll, conducted from September 29 to October 1 — before Jones’s controversial text messages were reported — found the attorney general’s race to be the closest of the three, with Democratic candidate Jay Jones leading incumbent Republican Jason Miyares by six points among likely Virginia voters, 49% to 43%, while 9% remained undecided.

Instead of taking accountability for his actions, it appears that my opponent submitted a letter to the Court stating that he performed 500 hours of ‘community service’ for his own PAC, which isn’t a charitable organization under state code, to dodge potential jail time.

It also shows Miyares with a +7 net favorability, as 31% view him favorably and 24% unfavorably. Jones’s net favorability is narrower at +2, with 28% favorable and 26% unfavorable.

Coyner — the same official with whom Jones exchanged the text messages fantasizing about shooting Gilbert and watching his children die — alleged in an interview Monday that Jones made other violent remarks about police officers. (RELATED: New Alleged Violent Rhetoric Unearthed From Democrat AG Candidate Jay Jones, This Time About Cops)

According to Coyner, during a heated discussion about removing qualified immunity protections for officers, Jones suggested that the deaths of a few police officers might prevent them from killing civilians.
