A GoFundMe campaign to support severely injured Virginia Republican Councilman Lee Vogler has raised over $57,000 just days after he was targeted in a brutal and unprovoked attack.

Vogler, 38, a city councilman in Danville and a father of two, sustained second- and third-degree burns over more than half of his body when a man allegedly entered his workplace and set him on fire. The incident occurred at Showcase Magazine, where Vogler serves as director of marketing. (RELATED: Political Violence Surging Under Trump Isn’t Exactly ‘Far-Right’ After All)

According to the fundraiser page launched by Andrew Brooks, the magazine’s publisher, the attack took place July 30. Vogler is currently being treated at the UNC Chapel Hill Burn Clinic in stable but critical condition. He faces multiple surgeries, an extended hospital stay and a long rehabilitation process.

“On July 30, 2025, our friend, husband, father, and community leader Lee Vogler was the victim of a horrific and senseless act of violence,” Brooks wrote. “The generosity and love we’ve seen has been overwhelming, and it’s making a real difference.”

Vogler’s wife Blair and their children are reportedly at his side as he begins the difficult road to recovery. The GoFundMe campaign had raised $57,187 as of Sunday afternoon, with a target goal of $100,000.

Authorities have not yet released full details about the suspect or motive behind the attack.
