MSNBC host Jen Psaki has officially turned the mirror on her own party, and the reflection isn’t pretty.
On a recent episode of The Focus Group podcast, hosted by The Bulwark, Psaki laid into the Democratic Party’s stale media strategy and tone-deaf messaging that’s left Americans tuning out—and approval ratings plunging, as reported by Fox News.
In a surprisingly candid critique, Psaki torched the classic Democrat tactic of dodging real questions with prepackaged talking points.
“The worst, worst media training advice… people give is ‘answer the question you want to answer.’ That is the freaking worst advice, especially for this moment in time.”
Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’
It’s a rare moment when someone inside the liberal media machine admits what the rest of America has known for years: voters are sick of being treated like they can’t tell when they’re being fed political mush.
Psaki hammered this home by mocking the bizarre disconnect between the questions Americans care about and the robotic answers they get.
“If you ask them, or I ask them, ‘Hey, what do you think should be done about Elon Musk?’ And their answer is, ‘We’re gonna build roads and bridges and defend the Affordable Care Act,’ people at home are like, ‘What in the hell?’”

Psaki didn’t stop there. She challenged her party to abandon the safe space of scripted answers and start showing a spine. “Rip the talking points up. Decide what you think authentically. You’re going to piss people off out there. Guess who pissed people off a lot when I was there? Barack Obama.”

While Psaki tried to defend Obama, conservatives would argue he “pissed people off” not with authenticity—but with disastrous policy. Still, her point stands: the left’s obsession with appearing polished and politically correct has only made them sound out of touch.
She even urged Democrats to “let the quirky flags fly” to remind voters they’re still “human beings who are interesting and funny and quirky and sporty.” But voters aren’t looking for quirky; they’re looking for results.
Psaki also made a similar appeal last month on Jon Stewart’s The Weekly Show podcast, where she scolded Democrats for talking like ivory tower academics. Her advice? Cut the elite jargon.
“Cross authoritarianism and oligarchy out of every script. Nobody talks this way.”
It seems like Psaki is finally noticing what grassroots Americans have been shouting for years: Democrats are completely out of touch. And the numbers prove it.
CNN and NBC News polls from earlier this month showed the Democratic Party had cratered to its worst approval ratings in over 30 years—29% in CNN’s poll and a bleak 27% in NBC’s.
Even with Psaki waving red flags, it’s clear the party elite aren’t ready to trade the teleprompter for truth. And until they do, their approval numbers—and connection with real Americans—will continue to nosedive.
