A large group of youths clashed with police Monday afternoon outside a Bronx shopping center, leading to multiple juvenile arrests after officers responded to reports of a crowd control issue, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident unfolded shortly after 2 p.m. on Presidents’ Day at the Mall at Bay Plaza in the Baychester section of the Bronx, according to the New York Police Department.

Police said they were responding to a 911 call regarding a crowd control condition at the shopping complex.

When officers arrived, they encountered what authorities described as a group of approximately 100 to 200 unruly youths gathered outside the mall.

According to police and law enforcement sources, officers repeatedly ordered the crowd to disperse.

Video posted to social media captured chaotic scenes as police attempted to restore order. The footage shows individuals screaming and running through the area as officers engaged with members of the group.

Some of the youths appeared to resist arrest and physically struggle with officers.

Hundreds of youths descended on the Bronx’s Bay Plaza Mall in what authorities are calling the “Bay Plaza Takeover,” unleashing widespread chaos. Law enforcement intervened, resulting in multiple arrests.

Police confirmed that multiple juveniles were taken into custody during efforts to break up the disturbance. Authorities did not immediately release the total number of arrests, and the specific charges are still pending.

The Mall at Bay Plaza, which features more than 150 stores, remained an active scene into Monday evening as officers continued their investigation.

Law enforcement officials said the inquiry into what led to the gathering and subsequent confrontation is ongoing.

No information was immediately provided regarding injuries to officers or members of the crowd.

Presidents’ Day often brings increased activity to public spaces as schools close for the holiday, and large groups of young people are frequently seen at shopping centers and transit hubs across the city.

Police did not indicate whether the gathering had been planned or organized through social media. Officials also have not disclosed whether additional charges could be filed as investigators review video evidence from the scene.

Authorities said they are continuing to examine footage and witness accounts as part of their investigation into the Presidents’ Day disturbance at the Bronx mall.
