Elon Musk turned the heat up on President Donald Trump by backing Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, who Trump has pledged to defeat in the midterms, according to social media posts.

Musk twice suggested his support for Massie’s 2026 reelection campaign on X. When pressed to support the congressmen Monday, he wrote “I will.” On Tuesday, he responded to a post asking who would back Massie’s congressional run with, “Me.”

Musk has continued to criticize the massive spending bill — central to Trump’s policy agenda — ahead of the Senate vote. In response, Trump fired back angrily on Monday night, threatening to deploy the Department of Government Efficiency to investigate Musk’s companies. Musk intensified his opposition to the massive budget package on Monday, vowed to target GOP lawmakers who vote for the legislation in the primaries.

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk wrote in a post on X.

Massie has openly criticized the “Big Beautiful Bill,” Trump’s comprehensive domestic policy proposal, and has condemned the U.S. strikes on Iran as unconstitutional. (RELATED: Thomas Massie Takes Apparent Swipe At Right-Wing Influencers After Angering MAGA)

The Kentucky Republican joined forces with Democrat California Rep. Ro Khanna on a bipartisan war powers resolution aimed at preventing U.S. involvement in the Iran conflict prior to Trump’s strikes on the country.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is actively working to unseat Republican Rep. Thomas Massie in the 2026 midterm elections by recruiting candidates to challenge him in the primary, a source familiar previously told the Daily Caller.

Massie said he might support a pared-down version of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” in an exclusive interview with the Caller. However, he said he opposes the current bill because it doesn’t sufficiently reduce government spending.

“The political calculus that both the president and AIPAC have to consider is, if they go after me and lose, they’ve lost a lot of credibility — both of them,” Massie told the Caller.

Despite Trump’s pledge to back a primary challenger, Massie announced on X that his campaign raised more than $177,000 last week, with the total exceeding $230,000 by Friday.
