Musk’s ‘No More White Guilt’ Message Sparks National Debate Over Gen Z and Race Politics

Elon Musk weighed in on a growing cultural debate Tuesday, posting “No more White guilt” on X in response to a viral thread arguing that Generation Z is rejecting racial shaming tied to historical events.

Musk’s remark quickly drew widespread attention, accumulating more than 131,000 likes and 9.2 million views by Tuesday evening, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The exchange began when influencer Mario Nawfal published a detailed thread titled “WHITE GUILT IS DEAD: GEN Z IS DONE APOLOGIZING FOR HISTORY THEY DIDN’T WRITE.”

Nawfal said many young white Americans, particularly men, are increasingly frustrated by being blamed for issues such as colonialism, slavery, and inequality despite having no personal connection to those events.

“They’re tired of being treated like the villain in a movie they weren’t even alive to watch,” Nawfal wrote, criticizing what he described as “woke institutions” that highlight every identity except white Americans and use “diversity” to justify excluding them.

Nawfal’s post, viewed more than 9 million times, referenced Musk’s earlier statement on X declaring, “No more anti-White propaganda.”

Studies examining Gen Z attitudes toward race show differing perspectives within the generation.

A 2023 Brookings Institute analysis reported that Gen Z is expected to be the last U.S. generation with a white majority, pointing to what the researchers described as a widening “racial generation gap.”

William Frey, author of the Brookings study, told The Guardian, “White Americans contributed substantially to older population gains compared to younger and middle-aged populations, which registered white declines.”

Frey added, “These patterns have led to a ‘racial generation gap,’ in which the younger population – more influenced by immigration in recent decades – is far more diverse than older age groups.”

A separate 2022 AP-NORC poll found Gen Z broadly supportive of anti-discrimination measures but deeply divided along ideological lines on questions involving race.

According to the pollsters, “Sharp ideological divides emerge within Gen Z—just like older generations—with issues of race being a touch point.”

The survey reported that “Gen Z liberals are more accepting of all-Black executive teams and casts on TV shows and movies than conservatives, while conservatives are more accepting than liberals of all-white executive teams.”
