Elon Musk announced Tuesday that he plans to speak with President Donald Trump about a proposed “DOGE Dividend,” an initiative that would return taxpayer dollars saved through government efficiency measures.
The idea, originally suggested by James Fishback, CEO of investment firm Azoria and an outside advisor to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), would provide American households with a portion of the savings generated by DOGE.
Fishback introduced the concept in an X post on Friday, stating, “American taxpayers deserve a ‘DOGE Dividend’: 20% of the money that DOGE saves should be sent back to hard-working Americans as a tax refund check. It was their money in the first place!”

He estimated that if DOGE achieves $2 trillion in savings, the refund could amount to $5,000 per household, with the remaining savings being used to reduce the national debt.
Musk responded to the proposal on Tuesday evening, shortly after his joint interview with Trump aired on Fox News.
“Will check with the president,” he wrote in response to Fishback’s post.

In a follow-up, Musk emphasized that the decision ultimately rests with Trump, stating, “Obviously, the President is the Commander-in-Chief, so this is entirely up to him.”

As of Monday, DOGE reported an estimated $55 billion in taxpayer savings, according to its official website, doge.gov.
The agency attributes these savings to efforts in “fraud detection/deletion, contract/lease cancellations, contract/lease renegotiations, asset sales, grant cancellations, workforce reductions, programmatic changes, and regulatory savings.”
While DOGE itself does not have legislative power, it was established through a day-one executive order by President Trump with the goal of modernizing federal operations and eliminating wasteful spending.
During a press conference Tuesday, Trump outlined some of the most unusual federal expenditures that DOGE has identified for potential cuts.
“$25 million to promote biodiversity, conservation, and promote licit livelihoods by developing socially responsible behavior in the country of Colombia. Well, it’s nice, 25 million to go into Colombia for something that nobody ever heard of. $40 million to improve the social and economic inclusion of sedentary migrants. $40 million. $42 million for Johns Hopkins, great place, to research and drive social and behavior change in Uganda. $42 million. What about us? What about social change in our country?” Trump said.
The president continued listing additional examples, totaling billions in federal spending that his administration is now reviewing for potential elimination.
Wow. President Trump goes off for FOUR uninterrupted minutes listing off woke insane projects that your money has funded…

During Tuesday’s interview with Trump, Musk addressed growing opposition from government agencies and left-leaning media to DOGE’s initiatives.
“Well, I guess we must be doing the target or doing something right,” Musk said.
“They wouldn’t be complaining so much if we weren’t doing something useful, I think.”
Musk then criticized the entrenched federal bureaucracy, pointing out its political leanings.
“And what we’re finding is there’s an unelected bureaucracy, there’s a vast federal bureaucracy that is implacably opposed to the president and the cabinet. And you look at, say, D.C. voting, it’s 92 percent Kamala. Ok, we’re at 92 percent Kamala, that’s a lot… I think about that number a lot. 92 percent, that’s basically almost everyone.”
He warned that unless the bureaucracy is restrained, the government would cease to function as a democracy.
“If the will of the President is not implemented, and the President is representative of the people, that means the will the people is not being implemented, and that means we don’t live in a democracy. We live in a bureaucracy. And so I think what we’re seeing here is the sort of the thrashing of the bureaucracy as we try to restore democracy and the will of the people.”
As the discussion on the “DOGE refund” moves forward, all eyes will be on Trump’s response and whether the initiative gains traction as part of the administration’s broader efforts to cut wasteful government spending.
