Ameer Ghalib, the Democratic mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, has made waves by endorsing former President Donald Trump, calling him the “right choice” in a time of critical importance.
Ghalib’s endorsement, announced on social media, highlights a significant shift within a key demographic—Arab Americans in Michigan—who have historically supported Democratic candidates but are now expressing dissatisfaction with the Biden-Harris administration.
WOW! DEMOCRAT MAYOR OF MOSTLY MUSLIM MICHIGAN CITY, AMMER GHALIB, JUST ENDORSED RIGHTFUL PRESIDENT TRUMP!
“I believe he is the right choice for this critical time.”

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Ghalib, a Yemeni immigrant and leader of one of the largest Muslim communities in Michigan, said that while he and Trump may not agree on every issue, Trump is a “man of principles” and the leader the country needs at this moment.
He emphasized that regardless of the outcome of the election, he would not regret his decision, stating, “I am ready to face the consequences.”
The endorsement comes after a private meeting between Ghalib and Trump in Flint, Michigan.
During the meeting, the mayor discussed how the region, including Wayne County, which was once a Democratic stronghold, no longer views the party in the same light.
Ghalib expressed frustration with the current administration, particularly with Harris’s handling of key issues, such as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Ghalib’s endorsement of Trump is particularly significant given that Hamtramck, where he serves as mayor, has a population that is reportedly 60 percent Muslim.
This marks a critical shift in political allegiance, with many in the Arab American community turning away from the Democratic Party due to concerns about the Biden-Harris administration’s policies.
The dissatisfaction began with the “uncommitted” movement, where over 100,000 Michigan voters, largely from the Arab American community, cast their ballots as “uncommitted” in the Democratic primary, signaling their discontent with Biden’s handling of the Israeli-Hamas conflict.
In an interview with Breitbart News on Saturday, Ghalib spoke highly of Trump, noting that under his administration, the world was more stable, and there were no new wars.
He said that Trump assured him he would “end the chaos in the Middle East” if reelected.
Ghalib’s endorsement could have a profound impact on the 2024 election, as Michigan was a critical battleground state in 2020, where Biden narrowly defeated Trump by just over 154,000 votes.
Trump, in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, welcomed Ghalib’s endorsement, noting that the mayor had been a supporter of the Trump administration, particularly because of the absence of new wars during his presidency. “He saw a world that was at peace,” Trump said.
The former president also emphasized that he is the only candidate who can prevent what he sees as an impending World War III, a message that resonates with many voters concerned about global instability.
Trump expressed his openness to visiting Hamtramck for a campaign event, saying, “If the opportunity presents itself, I would do that.”
He highlighted the growing discontent within the Arab American community and their frustration with the Biden-Harris administration, particularly over foreign policy decisions that have affected the Middle East.
This endorsement by Ghalib could be a game-changer in Michigan, where the loss of support from key voting blocs, such as Arab Americans, could significantly impact Harris’s chances in the state. In the 2020 election, the narrow margin between Biden and Trump in Michigan demonstrated the importance of every voting bloc.
Should a significant portion of the Arab American community follow Ghalib’s lead and back Trump, it could shift the state in Trump’s favor, potentially determining the outcome of the 2024 presidential race.
Trump has already highlighted the endorsement on his Truth Social platform, underscoring the significance of Ghalib’s support.
The “Abandon Harris” movement, which followed the earlier “Abandon Biden” campaign, signals a growing disillusionment with the Democratic Party among Arab Americans, particularly in Michigan.
As the 2024 election approaches, the impact of Ghalib’s endorsement and the shifting political allegiances in key states like Michigan will be closely watched.
For Trump, securing the support of influential figures like Ghalib could prove critical in his bid to return to the White House.
For Harris, losing the support of the Arab American community could be a devastating blow to her electoral prospects in a state that played a pivotal role in deciding the 2020 election.
