Republican South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace and her potential primary opponent for the state’s 2026 gubernatorial contest fired back at each other Monday over sexual abuse allegations levied by the congresswoman.

Mace took to the House floor Monday accusing her ex-fiancé and three other men of drugging, raping and illicitly filming her and other women, and attacked the state’s lead prosecutor, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, for failing to prosecute the alleged perpetrators. Despite Mace claiming to have handed her evidence — more than 10,000 videos — to South Carolina law enforcement, Wilson flatly denied knowing about the alleged sex crimes and claimed Mace had never approached him about the allegations. “I will burn this system to the ground if I have to,” Mace said on the floor. “I found more than enough probable cause and then some … If I found this many victims with this little effort. Why are they still on the streets of South Carolina today?”

Mace and Wilson are both seen as leading contenders to replace term-limited South Carolina Republican Gov. Henry McMaster. Mace has floated a gubernatorial run and has repeatedly criticized Wilson for being weak on illegal immigration. She questioned why Wilson has not prosecuted the alleged crimes on the House floor shortly before excoriating Wilson’s record on prosecuting sexual abuse.

“Attorney General Alan Wilson, be careful what you wish for, because your record speaks loud and clear,” Mace said on the floor. “Women who come forward in your system are treated like criminals under your leadership, in your system and on your watch.”

“So let me remind you, Mr. Attorney General, you have one job, and it is to follow the law,” Mace continued. “South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, you’re not a real man, because real men, real men, protect women. I have no respect for anyone who treats women and victims the way you do. You’ve turned a blind eye to women and girls for the last 15 years. I don’t have the luxury of looking away.”

Wilson issued a blistering statement following Mace’s attack on his record, designating her claims “blatantly false” and “politically motivated.”

“Recent statements made by Congresswoman Nancy Mace regarding the conduct of the South Carolina Attorney General are categorically false,” Wilson’s office said. “Ms. Mace either does not understand or is purposefully mischaracterizing the role of the Attorney General. At this time, our office has not received any reports or requests for assistance from any law enforcement or prosecution agencies regarding these matters. Additionally, the Attorney General and members of his office have had no role and no knowledge of these allegations until her public statements.”

“Congresswoman Mace and the Attorney General have been at multiple events together over the last six months,” Wilson’s statement continued. “She also has the Attorney General’s personal cellphone number. Not once has she approached or reached out to him regarding any of her concerns.”

Mace is notably protected by the “speech and debate” clause, granting her legal immunity from potential defamation suits from the men she labeled “predators” on the House floor. Republican Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida and Victoria Spartz of Indiana sat behind Mace in a show of support.

Mace did not respond to reporters’ questions following the floor speech and no media outlet has been able to corroborate the congresswoman’s allegations.
