Nancy Pelosi Says She Spoke With Biden After Rift Over 2024 Exit [WATCH]

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday that she has spoken with former President Joe Biden following a period of tension tied to his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, as reported by Fox News.

Pelosi made the remarks during an interview in which she was asked about her role in the events surrounding Biden’s exit from the race.

The discussion follows months of public reporting that suggested a strained relationship between the two after the decision.

MS NOW’s Ali Vitali, who conducted the interview, pressed Pelosi on whether she considered Biden’s withdrawal part of her political legacy.

Vitali said, “I think that many people credit you — or blame you — for the way that campaign ended.”

Pelosi responded by defending Biden’s record and downplaying her influence over his decision.

“Well, I don’t know, how can I say this in a nice way?” Pelosi said.

“The Biden administration accomplished great things. People compared him to LBJ in terms of the amount and the quality, and quantity of accomplishments. I — the only thing I asked the president to do were two things — I get more credit or blame than I deserve in that.”

Pelosi outlined what she said were her requests to Biden during the campaign.

“And that is that I wanted him to have other pollsters at the table than just listening to one, and B, I wanted him to assure the public that he could serve the term,” she continued.

“They didn’t agree with that, and so he then decided to step aside; it was his decision.”

When asked directly whether she had spoken with Biden following the fallout, Pelosi confirmed that communication had taken place but did not provide details.

“Yes, we have,” she said. “I’d rather — it’d be up to him to tell people when we spoke.”

According to Vitali, Pelosi and Biden recently met for lunch, signaling a possible thaw in their relationship after months without direct contact.

Pelosi had been widely viewed as a key figure in the sequence of events that led to Biden stepping aside.

During a July 2024 appearance on the MSNBC program “Morning Joe,” Pelosi indicated that Biden was still making a decision about his candidacy, even after he had stated publicly that he intended to remain in the race.

Biden later withdrew from the race and endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

In a December 2025 interview, Pelosi said that she and Biden had not yet spoken at that time, while expressing respect for his decision.

“Well, I’m saddened by it because I love him and respect him, but I respect his decision in that regard,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi also addressed Harris’ campaign, which followed Biden’s withdrawal and was conducted over a shortened timeline.

“She turned out so many more people than who would have voted,” Pelosi said.

“I think she doesn’t deserve enough credit for the outcome of the election in terms of — we would have lost probably 14 seats in that election if she had not been the candidate.”

The renewed contact between Pelosi and Biden comes after months of speculation about divisions within Democratic leadership following the 2024 election cycle.
