Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed in a televised interview Sunday that Iran’s Islamic regime had actively sought to assassinate President Donald Trump, labeling him “enemy number one” due to his firm stance against Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The comments came during Netanyahu’s appearance on a special edition of Fox News’ Special Report with Bret Baier, marking his first interview since Israel launched a major military offensive against Iran.
“They want to kill him. He’s enemy number one. He’s a decisive leader. He never took the path that others took to try to bargain with them in a way that is weak, giving them basically a pathway to enrich uranium, which means a pathway to the bomb, padding it with billions and billions of dollars,” Netanyahu said.

The Israeli leader credited President Trump with dismantling what he described as a flawed agreement with Tehran, taking strong measures that directly challenged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and leadership.
“He took up this fake agreement and basically tore it up. He killed Qasem Soleimani. He made it very clear, including now, ‘You cannot have a nuclear weapon, which means you cannot enrich uranium.’ He’s been very forceful, so for them, he’s enemy number one,” Netanyahu added.

In the interview, Netanyahu also disclosed that he was personally targeted by Iran, recounting how a missile struck the bedroom window of his residence.
Despite the attempt on his life, he expressed solidarity with President Trump’s hardline approach, calling himself the president’s “junior partner” in confronting Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons.
According to Netanyahu, the recent Israeli strikes were launched in response to what he described as an imminent dual threat from Iran: the regime’s alleged rush to weaponize enriched uranium and its rapid buildup of a large-scale ballistic missile arsenal.
“We were facing an imminent threat, a dual existential threat,” Netanyahu said.
“One, the threat of Iran rushing to weaponize their enriched uranium to make atomic bombs with a specific and declared intent to destroy us. Second, a rush to increase their ballistic missile arsenal to the capacity that they would have 3,600 weapons a year…. Within three years, 10,000 ballistic missiles, each one weighing a ton, coming in at mach 6, right into our cities, as you saw today… and then in 26 years, 20,000 [missiles]. No country can sustain that, and certainly not a country the size of Israel, so we had to act.”
Netanyahu emphasized that the military operation—named Operation Rising Lion—was aimed not only at preserving Israeli security but also at protecting global stability.
“This is a regime that’s been oppressing its own people for 50 years. They’re threatening to destroy Israel, and they’re exporting terrorism worldwide. By taking this action, we are not just defending ourselves. We’re defending the entire free world,” Netanyahu said.
Following the Israeli air campaign, Iran retaliated by launching a series of ballistic missiles at Israeli cities.
Israeli defense systems intercepted many of the incoming missiles, mitigating widespread damage. Nonetheless, the attacks escalated tensions in a region already on edge.
Netanyahu claimed Israel’s preemptive strike had significantly disrupted Iran’s nuclear progress.
“I think we’ve set back their nuclear program quite a bit,” Netanyahu said, noting that diplomatic engagement with Tehran had been futile. “Negotiations with them were going nowhere.”
The Israeli prime minister concluded by stating that his country remains prepared to act decisively to eliminate both the nuclear and ballistic missile threats posed by the Iranian regime.
Operation Rising Lion, according to Netanyahu, will go down as “one of the greatest military operations in history,” marking a turning point in the ongoing confrontation between Israel and the Iranian government.
