A North Las Vegas police officer was killed in the line of duty Tuesday afternoon after exchanging gunfire with an armed suspect near Lone Mountain and Camino Al Norte.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD), officers responded to reports of an individual armed with a handgun. When the responding officer located the suspect and issued commands, the suspect advanced toward the officer, leading to a gunfight.
The officer was struck multiple times and rushed to University Medical Center (UMC), where medical personnel attempted life-saving measures. Tragically, the officer succumbed to his injuries.

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of one of North Las Vegas’ finest,” said NLVPD Chief Jacqueline Gravatt. “Police officers choose this line of work because they want to protect and serve the community, knowing the risks and challenges that come with the badge. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family, friends, and his brotherhood in blue.”
The fallen officer has not yet been identified. The suspect was also shot during the exchange and transported to the hospital, where they later died.
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo addressed the tragic loss on X, writing, “Please join me in praying for this officer and their family.”
The North Las Vegas Police Department also released a statement expressing their grief:
“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the loss of one of our own, who was killed in the line of duty today. We extend our deepest condolences to their family, friends, and colleagues. This tragic loss is a solemn reminder of the dedication and bravery of those who serve and protect our community. We ask for thoughts and prayers for the family and everyone impacted during this difficult time.”
This marks the first officer-involved shooting in North Las Vegas for 2025.
