Nevada State Senator Edgar Flores, D-2nd District, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after police discovered him asleep in his vehicle at a red light in northeast Las Vegas during the early hours of September 12, as reported by The New York Post.
According to body camera footage released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, an officer found Flores slumped in the driver’s seat of his Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle was in drive with the keys in the ignition, and his foot pressed on the brake.
I can’t believe these fascists would arrest a Democrat who passed out at a traffic light.https://t.co/BjHZY8Rh3j

Despite officers flashing lights and attempting to open the driver’s side door, Flores remained unresponsive until one officer knocked on the window, startling him awake. When instructed to put the vehicle in park and exit, Flores appeared disoriented.
Asked where he was coming from, the 39-year-old senator told police he had been playing soccer at Sunset Park, located about three miles from Harry Reid International Airport, and was heading home to northern Las Vegas. He appeared to struggle when recalling his address.
“Why are you sleeping in your vehicle?” one officer asked.

“Sorry, I think I must have fallen asleep,” Flores replied.
When pressed on whether he had been drinking, Flores said he had consumed “just a drink,” later clarifying it was “one beer” around midnight.
After checking his identification, an officer realized Flores was a state senator and instructed colleagues to “make sure we run him through all the tests.”
The video shows Flores stumbling during a field sobriety test. After several attempts, police determined he had failed and placed him under arrest. Flores was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a misdemeanor DUI charge.

According to KLAS, Flores was not formally charged at the time and was released following a blood draw, as Nevada law allows release without bail or a court appearance in such cases. A status hearing on whether a criminal complaint will be filed is scheduled for January 12.
Following the arrest, Flores’ team issued a statement on X, saying he had been stopped “after a long day of work, community events, evening exercise, and a late dinner.”
The statement asserted that he had complied with both a breathalyzer and a blood test, claiming the breath test registered 0.0 and that they are confident the pending blood test will confirm he was not impaired.
However, police told KLAS that Flores had refused a “preliminary breath test” at the scene. Toxicology results from the blood draw are expected in approximately 90 days.
Flores, who represents northeastern Clark County, has acknowledged he was tired that evening but maintains he was not impaired while driving.
His campaign added that while they respect “the officers’ diligence in ensuring public safety,” they would also be “reviewing whether his rights and privacy were properly respected.”
