Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo and anchor Cheryl Casone discussed the latest inflation data and credited President Donald Trump’s energy policies for helping keep consumer prices in check despite rising producer-level costs.

During a recent segment, Bartiromo highlighted that the Consumer Price Index came in better than expected, even as commodity prices at the producer level have climbed in 2025.

“And this goes right back to President Trump’s policies and how he has aggressively tried to rein in the price of oil and gasoline. You look at this number better than expected. You attributed to the price of gas and oil here, and that is why you’re looking at the inflation story not hitting the consumer, even though the underlying price is on the producer level, whether it be copper, silver, gold, et cetera, have had a good 2025, and those underlying metals that have risen, you’re not seeing it passed on to the consumer, CPI better than expected. That’s why you’re seeing the market turnaround, and that’s why you’re seeing this CPI at a very tame level, attributed to the President’s policies. That was his number one priority when he first came in office for the second time,” Bartiromo said.

Producer prices for key commodities such as copper, silver, and gold have posted gains this year.

However, according to the discussion, those increases have not translated into higher prices for consumers at the checkout counter.

The CPI reading, which measures consumer inflation, reflected more moderate growth than analysts anticipated.

Bartiromo tied the performance of consumer inflation directly to the administration’s focus on lowering oil and gasoline prices.

She noted that energy costs influence a wide range of goods and services throughout the economy, and that lower prices at the pump can ease broader inflationary pressures.

Casone agreed, saying the inflation data could have political and economic implications heading into the midterm cycle.

“Absolutely, 1,000%, and this is where you keep hearing all this rhetoric about the midterms and how the Democrats are going to seize on these opportunities. No, no. Will you, as you mentioned, Jim Maria, when you see that pass through in the tax returns that Americans are going to see when you see gas station oil, oil lower, you see gas station prices continue to stay at these low levels. That’s, you know, it’s all the boats rising here, Maria, all the boats. And I think absolutely, this is really good news for the market and also for the economy overall,” Casone said.

The conversation centered on how lower oil and gasoline prices affect consumer spending power.

Energy costs are a major component of household budgets, and sustained declines at gas stations can leave consumers with more disposable income.

Bartiromo described the administration’s push to lower energy prices as a top priority during President Trump’s second term.

She said the latest CPI figures reflect that focus and explain why markets have reacted positively.

According to the discussion, the gap between rising producer-level costs and more subdued consumer prices suggests that businesses have not fully passed along higher input costs to consumers.

The CPI reading, described as “very tame,” contributed to a market turnaround.

Casone emphasized that stable or declining gas prices could shape broader economic sentiment.

She said consumers would see the impact not only at the pump but also in their tax returns and overall purchasing power.

Both hosts framed the inflation data as a signal that energy policy has played a central role in mitigating inflationary pressures.

They pointed to the better-than-expected CPI reading as evidence that consumer inflation has remained under control despite higher commodity prices in 2025.

The discussion concluded with the hosts characterizing the inflation report as positive for both the financial markets and the overall economy, citing continued low gas prices and restrained consumer inflation as key factors.
