Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre marked Christmas Day by sharing a public message about his Christian faith, saying he wants the direction of his life to honor Jesus Christ and encouraging others to place their faith in Him.

Favre, the longtime Green Bay Packers quarterback and one of the most accomplished players in NFL history, posted the message on social media Thursday while wishing followers a Merry Christmas.

The post reflected on his football career, his faith, and his personal priorities after decades in professional sports.

“For more than 20 years I put my hands up in celebration on the gridiron. Now, I put my hands up to the One that gave me all my talents and abilities — the King of my life, Jesus Christ,” Favre wrote.

“I’ve never claimed to be perfect, but my aim is for the direction of my life to honor Christ and I pray my faith increases.”

Favre continued by extending a Christmas greeting to those reading his message and urging them to consider faith in Christ regardless of their circumstances.

“So I do want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, whether you’re solo, with family, or friends, and if you haven’t done so, put your faith in Him who can save, Jesus Christ,” Favre wrote.

He then included a Bible passage, quoting Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

The post drew responses from social media users who expressed support for Favre’s message and thanked him for sharing his faith publicly.

“Great message Brett. Grace and peace to you. Matthew 18:3,” one user wrote in response.

Another commented, “Hallelujah! What a Savior! That’s a great testimony, thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your family!”

Favre’s Christmas message came months after public discussion of his health challenges. In September, CBS Sports reported that Favre has been battling Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurological condition that affects movement and muscle control.

In comments reported by CBS Sports, Favre described some of the symptoms he has experienced.

“Everyone attributes Parkinson’s with shaking, and most people [tell me], ‘I don’t see much shaking,’” Favre said.

“I have a little shaking, but not like Muhammad Ali or Michael J. Fox,” adding that he deals with rigidity and stiffness.

Favre also spoke about difficulties with swallowing, describing the issue as one of the more concerning aspects of the condition.

“I have a hard time swallowing,” Favre said.

“One of the doctors, out of the blue, said, ‘How’s your swallowing?’ And I was like, ‘It’s not as easy as it was.’ He said that’s one of the things that’s affected. There are times where I think I’m choking. So it’s sort of scary because they can’t fix that.”

Favre retired from the NFL after the 2010 season, concluding a career that spanned two decades and included time with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, and Minnesota Vikings.

He is widely known for his durability and longevity at the quarterback position.

According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Favre played in a record 299 consecutive games during his career.

The Hall of Fame notes that Favre finished his NFL career with 6,300 completions on 10,169 attempts for 71,838 passing yards and 508 touchdown passes over 302 games.

Favre was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

Since retiring, he has remained a prominent public figure through media appearances, charity work, and public statements on personal and national issues.

His Christmas message focused on faith rather than football, emphasizing gratitude for his talents and a desire to live in a way that honors Christ.

The post was widely shared and circulated on social media throughout the holiday, drawing attention not only for its religious content but also because of Favre’s status as one of the most recognizable figures in professional football history.
