Russell Wilson’s latest career move hasn’t exactly earned him a honeymoon period with NFL fans—or with New Yorkers.

Just hours after the veteran quarterback inked a one-year, $21 million deal with the New York Giants, half of it guaranteed, he made a headline-grabbing appearance at Madison Square Garden. And in true New York fashion, the welcome came with a healthy dose of sarcasm.

Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’

As The Daily Mail reported, the 36-year-old quarterback showed up on “Celebrity Row” during the Knicks-Clippers game alongside his pop-star wife, Ciara.

All smiles and soaking up the spotlight, Wilson waved to fans, signed a ball, and then launched it into the crowd like he was back on the field.

The Knicks posted the video on X, writing, “Giving @DangeRussWilson a New York welcome.” But if Wilson was expecting applause, he clearly forgot what city he was in.

Within minutes, social media lit up with fans ridiculing his accuracy—or lack thereof.

“I’m sure it didn’t go to his intended receiver,” one commenter jabbed.

Another chimed in with, “Damn, already throwing picks!!!”

And of course, the crowd favorite: “Not the first time he threw into a crowd.”

It’s hard to blame fans for being skeptical. Wilson is now on his third team in as many years, after forgettable stints in Denver and Seattle. It’s been a rough ride for someone once hailed as the NFL’s golden boy.

Now, he’s trying to reboot his career in the toughest media market in the country.

Still, Wilson sounds convinced he’s the man for the job.

“I expect to be the starter and to be able to come here and rock and roll every day.”

He spoke like a motivational speaker at a leadership seminar, emphasizing team culture, offseason habits, and building a “great winning culture.” All fine and good, but Giants fans have heard plenty of speeches—they’re waiting for results.

Wilson joins a QB room that already includes Jameis Winston, who just signed a two-year deal, and Tommy DeVito, last season’s cult favorite.

Meanwhile, the Giants hold the No. 3 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, and they’re still expected to target a young quarterback. Translation: Wilson’s job isn’t exactly secure.

In New York, you don’t get by on reputation—you prove it every snap. And if Wilson thinks he can coast on charm and celebrity cameos, the crowd at Madison Square Garden already gave him a preview of what he’s in for.
