A New Hampshire woman is facing multiple criminal charges after her 6-year-old daughter ingested a THC gummy and later tested positive for both cannabinoids and cocaine, according to law enforcement officials, as reported by the New York Post.

The investigation began after the New Hampshire Division for Children, Youth and Families notified the Nashua Police Department on Nov. 3 about a hospitalized child.

According to a release issued by the Nashua Police Department, detectives learned that the young girl had been taken to a hospital after ingesting a THC-infused edible.

While receiving medical treatment, the child underwent testing that revealed the presence of illegal substances in her system.

“While at the hospital, the juvenile victim tested positive for the illegal drugs, cannabinoids, and cocaine,” the Nashua Police Department said in its release.

The child’s mother, Paige Goulet, 30, became the focus of the investigation as detectives worked to determine how the substances were ingested and whether criminal neglect was involved.

Police said their inquiry also uncovered alleged efforts by Goulet to interfere with the investigation.

“Detectives learned that Goulet had told a witness not to cooperate with the police investigation, and detectives determined that Goulet had neglected her duty to care for her juvenile daughter,” the release stated.

Based on those findings, investigators sought criminal charges. Goulet was arrested Monday by Meredith police on a felony warrant related to the Nashua Police Department’s investigation.

Following her arrest, she was taken into custody by Nashua police and formally charged.

According to authorities, Goulet is facing charges of tampering with witnesses and endangering the welfare of a child.

The witness tampering charge stems from allegations that she attempted to prevent cooperation with law enforcement during the investigation into her daughter’s hospitalization.

Police did not release details about how the child obtained the THC gummy or how cocaine entered her system.

Authorities also did not provide information about the condition of the child following her hospitalization, other than confirming the positive drug tests.

After being processed, Goulet was released on $300 cash bail, according to police. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Jan. 7, where she will formally enter pleas on the charges.

The case remains under investigation, and officials have not announced whether additional charges could be filed.

The Nashua Police Department did not release information about whether other individuals may be involved or whether further action by child welfare authorities has been taken.

Fox News Digital reported that it has reached out to both the Meredith Police Department and the Nashua Police Department for additional comment.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns raised by law enforcement and child welfare officials regarding illegal drug exposure involving young children.

Authorities continue to stress the legal responsibility of parents and guardians to safeguard minors from access to controlled substances and to cooperate fully with investigations involving child safety.
