No, Leftists — Rioters Don’t Deserve Land Acknowledgements

The left has settled on a fresh justification for the Los Angeles riots. 

“California was part of Mexico, all of the Southwest is Mexico, so the roots are really deep in that region,” said former Univision anchor María Elena Salinas on a CNN panel. “And what they’re saying is ‘No, not in our community.’ Because when they’re coming in, even though there’s second, third, fourth generation Latinos that live there, and Mexican Americans that live there, some of them might be their family members, the people that they’re going after, it’s personal for them, because they’re going after their cousin, and their uncle, and their parents.” (RELATED: Legacy Media Turns On Waterworks For Another Criminal Migrant)

There’s a sort of person who reads A People’s History of the United States and retains permanent brain damage from the venture. Yes, California was part of Mexico – for less than three decades. The Spanish began colonizing California in 1542. After Mexico declared independence from Spain, it managed to hang on to California for a measly twenty-seven years (1821 to 1848) before the United States purchased the state (along with others) in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. California has belonged to the United States over six times longer than it ever belonged to Mexico.

Salinas isn’t alone in her elementary understanding of American history. 

“Yes, we’ll build the wall, yes we’ll pay for it. But we’ll do it according to the map of Mexico from 1830,” the President of the Mexican Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, said he told President Donald Trump at the outset of his first term. Noroña proceeded to display a map of the U.S.-Mexico border as it was drawn in that year.

Social media users – and celebrities – have downloaded the latest leftist software update, too. 

Pop star and amateur astronaut Katy Perry posted an image to her Instagram story reading: “[Los Angeles] was once Mexican land, and the people being targeted today are often descendants of those who have lived here for generations – or who came seeking safety, work, and dignity.”

“I keep seeing people ask why they are waving Mexican flags during the LA protests,” one X user wrote. So this is a small reminder than until 1848 California was part of Mexico … Most natives living on the land at the time were unalived, displaced and oppressed. When we say you can’t be illegal on stolen land — That is why.”

“People literally complaining why there are so many Mexicans in California… Like it didn’t used to be a part of Mexico. They didn’t move, the border did,” reads an X post with over one hundred thousand likes. 

If the rules are to apply evenly, the United States must also be obliged to give Louisiana back to the French. Who’ll then have to turn it over to the various Native American tribes of the region, who can fight each other to extinction over it. 

But the left’s rules aren’t manufactured for even application. They have a simple purpose: to help their friends and destroy their enemies. Now, illegal migrants from Mexico are supposed to be extended the same privileges as the Apache or Cherokee. It’s silly when “land acknowledgements” are offered to those groups. It’s preposterous to do the same for Mexicans, many of whom do not have ancestors who inhabited California in the first place. Meanwhile, Afrikaners, an ethnic group of European descent, have been in South Africa for nearly four hundred years. That span of time is still insufficient to be considered “native” by leftists. One must conclude that the left believes white people have no right to claim, settle, or defend land. Everyone else can do whatever they want.
