Not Many Believe Ilhan Omar And She Only Has Herself To Blame

A man charged towards Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar at a Minneapolis town hall event Tuesday night, spraying her with an unknown substance from a syringe-like device. 

The man, alleged to be 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak, was promptly tackled by security. Another angle of the incident shows Omar apparently rushing towards the man after he sprays her, before returning to the podium. Among right-wing commentators, speculation is swirling that Omar herself staged the attack. 

“Odd… Ilhan Omar gave a quick glance at the guy right before he stood up,” wrote “End Wokeness,” an X account with 3.9 million followers.

And President Donald Trump himself suggested Omar had staged the incident, in a phone interview with ABC News.

“I don’t think about her. I think she’s a fraud,” Trump reportedly said. “She probably had herself sprayed, knowing her.”

But let’s assume, for a moment, that the attack was genuine. If you were sprayed with a mysterious, foul-smelling liquid by a stranger, you’d probably want to go to a hospital to confirm all is well. 

Not Omar, it seems. 

“I’m going to finish my remarks,” Omar told the crowd after the incident. “It is important for me to continue to lead my Democratic colleagues in demanding [Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem’s] resignation.” 

“You know, I’ve survived more, and I’m definitely going to survive intimidation and whatever these people think that they can throw at me because I’m built that way,” Omar later told reporters, according to ABC News.

“The Congresswoman is okay. She continued with her town hall because she doesn’t let bullies win,” Omar’s office wrote in a statement. 

“DataRepublican,” another popular right-wing X account, responded, “Representative Omar continued her town hall because of one of two options … She does not have the self-preservation instincts accompanying being sprayed with a smelly substance, such as getting a doctor to check it out or even as simple as washing it off,” or, “She staged it. There are no other options.”

Putting aside the legitimacy of the attack itself, if people are quick to suspect Omar of wrongdoing, it’s because Omar has been embroiled in fraud scandals for nearly the entirety of her career.

Omar claims federal immigration agents pulled over her son in December 2025, according to CBS News.

“Yesterday, after he made a stop at Target, he did get pulled over by [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)] agents, and once he was able to produce his passport ID, they did let him go,” Omar said in an interview on WCCO Sunday Morning, adding that her son “always carries” his passport with him.

“ICE has absolutely ZERO record of its officers or agents pulling over Congresswoman Omar’s son,” DHS fired back in an X post. “With no evidence, it is shameful that Congresswoman Omar would level accusations to demonize ICE as part of a PR stunt.”

ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons called Omar’s claims “disgusting, reckless and categorically false,” according to CBS News.

Omar has been accused of marrying her brother. She denies the allegations. Regardless, Omar filed joint tax returns with a man who was not yet her husband, while married to another man, according to a 2019 report by the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board. Omar married Tim Mynett in 2020. Omar reportedly handed Mynett’s consulting firm $2.78 million from her campaign account before cutting ties in 2020. Omar’s net worth skyrocketed in 2024 to over $30 million, according to a financial disclosure. The representative reportedly told the press earlier that year that it was “ridiculous” and “categorically false” to say she was a millionaire.

Omar has brushed off the Trump administration’s investigation into Somali fraud in Minnesota, claiming there was “no justification” for the federal government’s response. Federal prosecutors have alleged scammers may have looted as much as $9 billion from Minnesota Medicaid programs. 

“What we see in Minnesota is not a handful of bad actors committing crimes. It’s a staggering industrial-scale fraud. It’s swamping Minnesota and calling into question everything we know about our state,” said U.S. Assistant Attorney Joe Thompson in December 2025. 

Trump claimed the Department of Justice and Congress “are looking at ‘Congresswoman’ Illhan Omar, who left Somalia with NOTHING, and is now reportedly worth more than 44 Million Dollars. Time will tell all,” in a Truth social post made Monday. 

All to say, if the public refuses to give Omar the benefit of the doubt, she has no one to blame but herself.
