Now You Tell Us…

Are our elites stupid, or just crazy like a fox?

I was led to think about that, once again, as I saw a few clips from members of the transnational elites doing about-faces on issues they have been pushing on the world for decades. 

Ursula von der Leyen just gave a speech where she admitted that the European Union made a drastic mistake abandoning nuclear power and dismantling the plants in a headlong rush.

As von der Leyen said, abandoning nuclear power was a choice, and she was one of the people who pushed that choice through by voting to destroy nuclear power plants in Germany.

Oops. Or was it an oops? Building nuclear power plants is a one-and-done, with the plants operating for 50 or more years. The “energy transformation” to renewables has drained trillions of dollars that could have been invested in productive activities, but were instead used to subsidize politically powerful groups on an ongoing basis. 

It was bad for Europe, but good for the elite’s friends. So was it a mistake, or a choice to transfer wealth from ordinary Europeans to politically favored groups?

What about Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany? He’s getting a lot of applause for standing up to Europe to defend Israel, applauding Trump’s Operation Epic Fury, and for his vow to reduce overregulation. 

All well and good, but Merz has been a member of the same elite that got Europe into this economic mess. Recognizing that you created a disaster is better than not doing so, but it’s not exactly comforting to know that the man who just demolished Germany’s last nuclear power plant and who has driven its electricity prices to some of the highest in the world is now ready to do an about-face.

📍 Gundremmingen, one of Germany’s first nuclear plants, began operating in 1966 and once produced up to a quarter of Bavaria’s electricity.

Its last reactor was shut down in 2021 as part of Germany’s nuclear phase-out. The demolition marks the symbolic end of the nation’s atomic era🇩🇪

What inspired me to write this, though, was Larry Fink’s recent comments about how we need reliable baseload power.

As Chairman of BlackRock, he has been pushing the whole renewable energy fiasco for years, with his ESG mandates. 

Now, all of a sudden, he reverses himself and speaks with authority about how we need reliable energy, and shouldn’t rely on renewables because they don’t work for our economy.

Blackrock Guy: (rattles off 10,000 breathless words about how China has solar farms or something I don’t know I wasn’t listening)

Why? Is he all of a sudden a convert, or did he and BlackRock make billions in the renewable energy boom that Biden et al subsidized massively, and now he wants to make billions more out of the AI boom, which requires real power supplies?

Was he wrong, or merely sacrificing American consumers for his own profit? You decide. I know what I think. 

Forgive me if I am skeptical that these “leaders” sincerely care about getting it right, instead of getting theirs now. And, assuming their motives were entirely pure, can somebody explain to me why people who have shown the most incredibly poor judgment, who were warned repeatedly and loudly that they were causing harm, should now remain in charge to make new mistakes?

Being a member of the transnational elite means never having to say you’re sorry.
