President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning about the dangers of nuclear weapons, calling them the greatest threat to humanity.

During an interview on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, Trump emphasized the destructive power of these weapons and called for renewed arms control negotiations with Russia and China.

“The greatest [threat] is sitting on shelves in various countries called ‘nuclear weapons’ that are big monsters that can blow your heads off for miles and miles and miles,” Trump said.

The United States currently possesses the second-largest nuclear arsenal in the world, behind Russia, while China continues to expand its stockpile.

Trump expressed concern over the vast sums of money being allocated to nuclear programs, arguing that such spending is both excessive and dangerous.

“We spend a lot of money on nuclear weapons — the level of destruction is beyond anything you can imagine,” he stated.

“It’s just bad that you have to spend all this money on something that if it’s used, it’s probably the end of the world.”

Trump also took aim at politicians and world leaders who have repeatedly framed climate change as the biggest threat to the planet. He directly criticized former President Joe Biden, who has often called climate change an existential crisis.

“I watched [former President Joe] Biden for years say the existential threat is from the climate,” Trump said. “I said ‘No.’”

“They talk about the climate and they talk about the dangers of the climate but they don’t talk about the dangers of a nuclear weapon, which could happen tomorrow,” he added.

Trump has repeatedly warned about Russia’s dominant nuclear stockpile and has also expressed concern about China’s rapid military expansion.

While China currently has the third-largest nuclear arsenal, Trump predicted that the communist nation could catch up to Russia within the next decade.

He stressed the importance of reopening nuclear arms control talks with both Russia and China.

His long-term goal, he said, would be to reduce defense budgets significantly.

“There’s no reason for us to be building brand new nuclear weapons, we already have so many,” Trump said in a previous statement last month.

“You could destroy the world 50 times over, 100 times over. And here we are building new nuclear weapons, and they’re building nuclear weapons.”

Trump made it clear that while arms control negotiations remain a priority, they would not be his immediate focus.

Instead, he emphasized the need to first address ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to global stability, stating that once “we straighten it all out” in those regions, he would look to engage in talks aimed at curbing the nuclear arms race.
