A tragic incident unfolded on a recent Sunday afternoon when a boat carrying six passengers capsized in New York City’s Ambrose Channel.

As reported by The New York Post, this busy waterway between Brooklyn and Staten Island became the scene of a serious maritime accident that has left the community reeling.

Authorities confirmed that at least three individuals lost their lives, two sustained injuries, and one passenger remains missing in the frigid waters.

Emergency responders from the NYPD and the US Coast Guard acted quickly after receiving distress calls. Their prompt efforts resulted in the rescue of five occupants shortly after the vessel overturned around noon.

Despite the rapid response, four of those pulled from the icy waters were found unresponsive, underscoring the severity of the conditions.

Rescue operations were carried out by a team of police divers, Coast Guard personnel, and other first responders. Two of the injured passengers received immediate airlift services to Staten Island Hospital, while the other three were transported to Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook for urgent care.

The coordinated response from multiple agencies demonstrated the commitment of New York’s emergency services to protect and assist citizens in crisis situations.

Authorities confirmed that three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Among the survivors, one person is in critical condition and another in stable condition.

As daylight waned, Coast Guard divers continued to search for the sixth passenger, believed to be somewhere in the waters approximately five miles southeast of Breezy Point in Queens. T

hree rescue boats and an MH-65 helicopter were deployed to aid in the ongoing search. Assistance from the FDNY, NJ State Police, and other local agencies has further reinforced the response effort.
