Ohio State fans celebrated in spectacular fashion after the Buckeyes secured the College Football National Championship with a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame on Monday night.
The celebration spilled over into Ohio Stadium, as hundreds of jubilant fans broke through a gate and rushed onto the field, braving frigid temperatures that reached as low as -5°F in Columbus.
Videos captured by the Columbus Dispatch show a massive crowd waving Ohio State flags and cheering outside the stadium gates moments before gaining entry.

Once inside, the fans raced down the concourse and onto the snow-covered field, where they celebrated the team’s triumph into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Ohio State freshman Thomas Schmnasky described the scene as “surreal.”
He shared that while he expected celebrations on campus, he never imagined fans would make their way into “The Shoe.”
Senior Natalie Freihammer echoed the sentiment, expressing surprise that law enforcement did not take action to prevent the crowd from entering.
“It’s crazy,” Freihammer said. “I was surprised that the cops are so supportive.”
According to the Columbus Dispatch, OSU police officers inside the stadium seemed to embrace the celebratory atmosphere, allowing fans to revel on the field.
The crowd began to disperse within 30 minutes, but not before many captured photos and videos to commemorate the moment.
The celebration followed a nail-biting finish at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where Ohio State’s victory was far from assured.
The Buckeyes held a commanding 24-point lead going into the fourth quarter, only to see the Fighting Irish mount a fierce comeback, narrowing the deficit to eight points late in the game.
With just over two minutes remaining and the title hanging in the balance, Buckeyes Head Coach Ryan Day made a bold decision.
On third-and-11, rather than running down the clock, Day put the game in the hands of quarterback Will Howard.
Facing heavy pressure in the pocket, Howard launched a deep pass to freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who secured a 56-yard gain.
The play set up a field goal in the final minutes, sealing the victory for Ohio State.
“I just thought to myself: Only one national championship, you only get one opportunity a year to do this, let’s just lay it on the line and put it out there and be aggressive. And that’s what we did,” Day said in the postgame interview.
Day emphasized his commitment to staying aggressive throughout the game, a strategy he communicated to both offensive and defensive units leading up to the championship.
The win marked Ohio State’s ninth national championship in program history and its first since 2014.
The Buckeyes also made history as the first team to win the National Championship under the new 12-team playoff format.
The victory cemented Ohio State’s place in college football history and sparked unforgettable celebrations for fans on campus and beyond.
While temperatures may have been freezing, the passion and excitement of Buckeye Nation brought an electrifying close to the season.
