Olympic Kitesurfer Rescues Woman from Drowning in Dramatic Rescue [WATCH]

Bruno Lobo, a 31-year-old Olympic kitesurfer and doctor, is being hailed for his quick actions after rescuing a woman from drowning off the coast of São Luís, Brazil.

The dramatic rescue, which was captured on video, took place on January 10 and has since gone viral, earning widespread praise.

Lobo, who was born in São Luís, had taken to the water that day to test a new video system attached to his kitesurfing gear.

The footage initially shows him enjoying the ocean, but the mood quickly changes as he notices someone in distress.

“After sailing a few meters, I heard a cry for help and looked at the girl who was drowning,” Lobo wrote on Instagram.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, he immediately maneuvered his kitesurfing gear to reach the struggling woman.

In the video, Lobo can be seen approaching the woman, who was far from shore and visibly exhausted.

“I promptly approached her with the kite, tried to calm her down, and asked her to climb on my back as she was very tired and had no strength,” Lobo explained.

Once he reached her, Lobo helped the woman onto his board and began heading back to shore.

His decisive actions likely saved her life.

“I was very surprised at that moment to see someone at that level in the sea, and when I recognized that she was drowning, I promptly went in her direction to help,” Lobo said, according to CNN.

The Olympian shared his relief that the rescue had a positive outcome.

“I am very happy that there was a happy end and she is fine! For sure, if she stayed longer in the water, she wouldn’t be,” he said.

Despite the praise he has received for his heroics, Lobo remains humble. “Thank you for all the messages. I only did what needed to be done and what was within my power!” he said.

Lobo’s video has been widely circulated online, sparking discussions about the importance of water safety and the readiness to act in emergencies.

The kitesurfer competed in last year’s Paris Olympics and has long been recognized for his athletic talent.
