Olympic medalist and X Games champion Nyjah Huston suffered serious head injuries after a skateboarding stunt went wrong, an incident he later described as a reminder of how dangerous elite-level street skating can be, as reported by Fox News.

Huston, 30, revealed in a social media post that he sustained a fractured skull and fractured eye socket following what he described as a “death-defying” attempt on a massive rail.

The incident occurred around the New Year, though an exact location was not disclosed.

“A harsh reminder how death-defying skating massive rails can be…” Huston wrote in an Instagram post that included a photo of him lying in a hospital bed.

“Taking it one day at a time. I hope yall had a better new years then me. We live to fight another day.”

The post also included images of Huston being treated by first responders and friends at the scene, as well as another photo showing severe bruising around one of his eyes.

Huston is one of the most decorated skateboarders in the sport’s history. He won a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where skateboarding made its second Olympic appearance.

He is also a 13-time X Games gold medalist and has amassed seven gold medals and five silver medals across world championship competitions.

Support for Huston poured in quickly from across the skateboarding world following his post. Fellow Olympic athlete and action-sports icon Shaun White shared words of encouragement on social media.

“Been watching @nyjah grow up into one of the best skaters to ever do it and it amazes me the amount of grit this kid has,” White wrote on his Instagram story, according to Pro Football Network. “You got this brother. Heal quick!”

Skateboarding pioneer Tony Hawk also commented directly on Huston’s post.

“Heavy. Stay strong; we know you’ll be back,” Hawk wrote.

Professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler added his support as well, writing, “Man.. prayers for healing brother!”

No additional medical details beyond the skull and eye socket fractures have been released, and Huston has not provided an estimated timeline for recovery.

I cant get over this Nyjah Huston slam. Fractured skull, but he’s alive. Might be the gnarliest fall I’ve ever seen tbh. pic.twitter.com/VwW7veXjmG

Huston has not competed in professional events since the Paris Olympics, but he has previously stated his intention to continue competing with the goal of qualifying for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

The injury raises questions about his training schedule and recovery timeline as he looks ahead to the next Olympic cycle.

Despite the severity of the injuries, Huston’s post suggested a determined outlook as he begins the recovery process.

His supporters across the skateboarding community expressed confidence that he would return to competition following rehabilitation.
