A mechanical issue involving the landing gear of an American Airlines flight led to an emergency evacuation at Denver International Airport on Saturday, July 26.

The incident involved American Airlines Flight 3023, a Boeing 737 Max 8 scheduled to fly from Denver to Miami.

According to officials, the issue occurred while the aircraft was still on the runway during its takeoff roll.

The Denver Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished a fire that had been reported under the plane.

Smoke was also visible during the incident, and passengers were seen exiting the aircraft via emergency slides before moving away from the plane.

The airline confirmed that all 173 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated.

Five individuals were evaluated on site but did not require further medical treatment.

“American Airlines Flight 3023 experienced a mechanical issue on take-off roll at Denver International Airport (DEN),” the airline said in a statement provided to FOX Business.

“All customers and crew deplaned safely, and the aircraft was taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team. We thank our team members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for their experience.”

The airline also confirmed that the aircraft experienced a maintenance issue related to one of its tires.

Passengers affected by the incident were scheduled to continue to Miami on a replacement aircraft later in the day.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that it is investigating the incident.

In a statement, the FAA said, “American Airlines Flight 3023 reported a possible landing gear incident during departure from Denver International Airport around 2:45 p.m. local time Saturday, July 26. Passengers evacuated on the runway and are being transported to the terminal by bus.”

The event caused temporary disruptions at the airport. According to the flight tracking service FlightAware, approximately 90 flights at Denver International Airport were delayed starting around 2 p.m.

The airport issued a ground stop for incoming flights that had not yet departed from their origin airports.

The ground stop remained in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Local authorities confirmed that normal airport operations had resumed following the temporary disruption.

The emergency in Denver followed another aviation-related incident the previous day.

On Friday, Southwest Airlines Flight 1496, traveling from Burbank, California, to Las Vegas, took a sharp descent shortly after takeoff to avoid a potential midair collision.

That maneuver caused passengers to be thrown from their seats and hit the ceiling of the cabin.

Saturday’s incident adds to the growing number of safety-related events currently under review by federal regulators and airline industry officials.

The FAA continues to investigate both the American Airlines mechanical issue in Denver and the Southwest incident over Nevada.

Maintenance crews are conducting a full inspection of the aircraft involved.
