ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith criticized President Joe Biden on Wednesday after the outgoing president told USA Today that he was uncertain if he could have completed another term in office.
The 82-year-old president still believes he could have defeated President-elect Donald Trump in the November presidential election, but acknowledged in the USA Today interview that he was unsure whether he had the ability to serve another four years. Smith, on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” said the president’s remarks made him grateful that Biden will leave office on Jan. 20. (RELATED: Biden Curses At Reporters Amid Bizarre Rant About Immigrants)

“It’s validation on several levels why President Biden should have bowed his ass out of the race. You see, you can’t let him off the hook here. So let me get this straight: you knew that you probably couldn’t go another four years, but you ran for election. You didn’t bow out,” Smith said. “You didn’t do what you had promised to do, which was to be a transitional president and pass the baton to a younger generation. You didn’t do that. Then you sat up there and you avoided primaries, and then you went and showed up on June 27th and looked lost.”
Smith suggested that Biden’s remarks indicated that he was aware before his June debate against Trump that he “probably couldn’t give us four more years,” yet “ran anyway.”
“That is pathetic. That is inexcusable. But by the way, let me take it a step further: it’s also delusional that you would have beat Trump. Let’s state that for the obvious, because clearly the American people have spoken, and if they spoke against [Vice President] Kamala Harris, the likelihood is that they would have spoke against you because of the things you yourself just mentioned,” he continued. “This is the kind of stuff that’s going to hurt the Democratic Party for years to come. Because, you see, if he felt that way and he had those reservations, even though he believed he could beat Trump in a runoff of the election, the bottom line is the Democratic Party knew — and they tried to hide him. You don’t have credibility any longer.”
Smith also said that Republicans are not especially credible either, taking aim at Trump’s remarks about acquiring Greenland and wanting to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.”
“But when I saw that quote from Biden, I said, ‘Thank God he’s leaving. Thank God.’ I’ve had enough,” Smith added.
“I also wasn’t looking to be president when I was 85 years old, 86 years old. And so I did talk about passing the baton,” Biden said in the interview. “But I don’t know. Who the hell knows? So far, so good. But who knows what I’m going to be when I’m 86 years old?”
