Pay Attention This Week, Congress Is Robbing You With Both Hands: Rep Tim Burchett [WATCH]

Rep. Tim Burchett delivered a sharp critique of congressional leadership and Senate spending priorities, arguing that Republicans are failing to stop what he described as corrupt foreign funding and are unwilling to force action on voter identification requirements, even with a GOP-controlled chamber.

In remarks addressing developments in Washington, Burchett pointed to efforts by several senators to block spending he characterized as wasteful and corrupt, while accusing Republican leadership of prioritizing political convenience over accountability.

“Hey everybody. Tim Burchett, I know y’all been watching the news or not, what’s going on in Washington, in our Senate,” Burchett said.

“Mike Lee and Rick Scott have been doing great work trying to stop a bunch of crazy funding.”

Burchett said one funding issue involved an organization based in Africa that he claimed openly acknowledged corruption.

“One thing is some outfit, I think it’s out of Africa, that we’re funding at the organization’s chairman or or leaderships has said, Please don’t send us any more daggum money. We’re stealing. It is corrupt. It needs to stop,” Burchett said.

“And you can’t even get the Republican controlled Senate to back him on that.”

He said Republican senators were unwilling to oppose the funding out of fear of jeopardizing their own priorities.

“Why? Oh, we’re not going to get our stuff funded if we don’t,” Burchett said.

Burchett then turned to election integrity legislation, criticizing Congress for failing to advance the Save Act, which would require proof of citizenship and voter identification.

“In the same thing in the house, we’re trying to pass the Save act,” he said.

“We talked about Ford ship. Roy out of Texas. Mike Lee, the Senate sponsor, just says, You got to be an American citizen to vote. You got to show an ID.”

He contrasted voting requirements with everyday transactions that already require identification.

“You got to do that to buy a six pack of beer for goodness sakes, fly on an airplane tomorrow,” Burchett said.

“I’ll fly. I’ll know every TSA agent. I know their families. I grew up with some of them. And guess what? I show a dad gum ID when I fly. It’s just that simple.”

Burchett questioned why Republican leadership has not attached voter ID provisions to must-pass legislation.

“And why won’t we attach that to something and make them do it?” he said.

“Why? Because we’re complacent, and we get our funding for our stuff, and we don’t want to rock the boat.”

He warned that approach is no longer sustainable.

“Well, that boat has sailed, folks, we need to start. We need to be flagrant boat rockers from here on out,” Burchett said.

Burchett accused Republican leaders of conceding ground to Democrats through poor strategy and messaging, while Democrats remain unified.

“This is what really frustrates me about our leadership, how we play ball and the Democrats never do,” he said.

“They just stick together and and vote for a bunch of garbage, and the liberal media lets them do it, and they never call them into question.”

He said Republicans bear responsibility for their current political position.

“We got to do better, folks. We got to do better,” Burchett said.

Looking ahead, Burchett predicted internal conflict and political turbulence in the coming days.

“Pay attention. What’s going on this week,” he said.

“This week, there’s going to be a lot of infighting and a lot of finger pointing and oh, you’re going to shut the government down.”

He said the underlying concern among lawmakers is not policy but personal benefit.

“We’re not going to get our stuff, is what it amounts to,” Burchett said.

Burchett criticized what he described as ineffective communication from Republican leadership.

“Our messaging stinks,” he said.

“The best friend the Democrats have right now is, is the Republican messaging. It’s unbelievable.”

He warned that continued inaction would have long-term consequences for the country.

“It is unbelievable, and we’re allowing it to happen, and we’re going to lose our country,” Burchett said.

“We’re flat out going to lose it.”

Burchett concluded by urging voters to stay engaged and demand accountability from elected officials.

“Keep fighting, hold us accountable. Pay attention this week, folks, it’s going to get it’s going to get pretty wild,” he said.

“Thank you all for sending me here.”
