Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was confronted by a reporter on the steps of the U.S. Capitol this week and reacted angrily when asked why she refused to authorize National Guard assistance on January 6, 2021, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
The exchange occurred when Lindell TV correspondent Alison Steinberg questioned Pelosi about her role in security decisions leading up to the Capitol riot.
“Congresswoman Pelosi, are you at all concerned that the January 6th Committee will find you liable for that? Are you at all concerned about the January 6th Committee finding you liable for that day? Why did you refuse the National Guard on January 6th?” Steinberg asked.
Pelosi, appearing visibly irritated, shouted, “SHUT UP! I did not refuse the National Guard. The President didn’t send it. Why are you coming here with Republican talking points as if you are a serious journalist?”
Steinberg replied, “The American people want to know! We still have questions!”

This Could Be the Most Important Video Gun Owners Watch All Year
Video of the confrontation circulated widely online. It followed renewed scrutiny of Pelosi’s actions on January 6, after footage released in June 2024 by the House Oversight Committee showed Pelosi saying, “I take responsibility,” regarding the security failures at the Capitol that day.
Reports from Just the News and PJ Media have documented that Pelosi’s senior security aides were warned of a potential breach the night before January 6.
Despite those warnings, Pelosi and Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser both declined offers for National Guard support prior to the protests.
Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund has testified that he requested authorization from House and Senate security officials to place the D.C. National Guard on standby in case of unrest, but those requests were denied. Sund said he believed the Guard could have responded within minutes had it been pre-authorized.
John Solomon of Just the News previously reported that Capitol Police received intelligence of possible violence two weeks before the protests. The Department of Homeland Security and the D.C. government were also alerted to online threats of unrest before the event.
Despite those warnings, no National Guard troops were positioned in advance.
Since January 6, 2021, Nancy Pelosi spent 3+ years and nearly $20 million creating a narrative to blame Donald Trump.

Whistleblowers from the D.C. National Guard later testified that the Pentagon, led by then-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, delayed deployment orders until after 5 p.m. that day.
The delay left Capitol Police overwhelmed as demonstrators breached barricades and entered the building.
Pelosi has repeatedly denied responsibility for the security breakdown. However, her refusal to release communications from that period and the reported destruction of related evidence by the January 6 Committee have continued to raise questions about her role.
Pelosi’s outburst on the Capitol steps marks one of her most public confrontations over the ongoing controversy surrounding security decisions made in the days leading up to the riot.
