British journalist Piers Morgan engaged in a heated debate with liberal streamer Destiny on Piers Morgan Uncensored Friday, as the two argued over President Donald Trump’s authority to cut government funds, including those allocated to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
The discussion comes amid Democratic opposition to Trump’s restructuring of USAID, which has been placed under the leadership of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Democratic lawmakers, along with critics like Destiny, have challenged the move, claiming Trump and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leader Elon Musk do not have the legal authority to make such sweeping changes.

During the segment, Destiny argued that Trump’s actions were unlawful, insisting that the president could not “unilaterally” make funding decisions based on “what he likes or doesn’t like.”
Morgan quickly pushed back.
“Well, actually, hang on,” Morgan said. “I was going to say, look, that’s not actually correct. He’s entitled to do this.”
As Destiny attempted to interrupt, Morgan continued, pointing out that Democrats, including New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have ignored or challenged judicial rulings when decisions do not align with their political agenda.
“There can be legal challenges. Trump made it clear in the Oval Office yesterday he would accept what a judge said,” Morgan stated.
“Now, by contrast, I remember Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, when it came to the Texas ruling in a court by a judge about abortion medication. For example, she said that the Democrats should not accept what that judge had ruled.”
Morgan continued questioning the double standard, arguing that Trump had publicly committed to following judicial rulings, while Democrats have dismissed decisions they disagreed with.
“So why is it one rule for Democrats that they can ignore a judge’s order with impunity? But when President Trump says, ‘If you want to challenge this, no problem. I would accept the ruling of the judge,’” Morgan asked.
“Isn’t that democracy?”
Destiny responded with sarcasm, asking Morgan, “What years did Ocasio-Cortez serve as president?”
Morgan dismissed the question as irrelevant, but Destiny continued to argue that Ocasio-Cortez, as a member of Congress, was not in the same branch of government as Trump and therefore could not be held to the same standard.
Morgan then brought up former President Joe Biden’s handling of student loan forgiveness, highlighting how Biden attempted to push through his loan forgiveness agenda despite a Supreme Court ruling against it.
“President Biden did the same over student loans,” Morgan said. “
When the Supreme Court shut him down in one thing, then he took a different avenue. It was not the same. President Biden did not ignore temporary restraining orders.”
Destiny countered by claiming that some Trump officials had promoted ignoring judicial rulings, citing statements from individuals such as Vice President J.D. Vance.
“I just said other people have said over and over, I’m sorry, Piers—Vance and others have made it clear over and over again. They’ve quoted the Andrew Jackson quote, and they’ve said, ‘Well, we should just resist the judiciary,’” Destiny said. “It is not part of law and order. It’s not part of checks and balances for the executive to say, ‘Well, I don’t care what a judge says. We’ll just do whatever.’ Which is what they’re currently doing.”
Meanwhile, just days before leaving office, the Biden-Harris administration announced on January 13 that it had approved additional student loan forgiveness for 150,000 borrowers, bringing the total amount forgiven to $183.6 billion for over 5 million borrowers.
As the debate over executive authority continues, Trump has reiterated his commitment to following court rulings.
However, his efforts to cut government waste have faced multiple legal challenges from Democratic lawmakers.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge George O’Toole Jr. lifted a temporary freeze, allowing Trump to proceed with offering federal employees buyouts under his cost-cutting initiative.
The ruling marked a win for the administration amid ongoing pushback from congressional Democrats.
