The Alabama representative is an Enterprise, Alabama, native currently serving his third term in Congress, according to an AL.com report. Moore claims he was the first elected official to endorse President Donald Trump during his first presidential campaign in 2015, the outlet added.
Moore — member of the House Freedom Caucus — was first elected to Congress in 2020 to represent Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, and he secured reelection in 2022, AL.com noted.
A 2023 federal court ruling prompted a redistricting that shifted Moore into the 1st Congressional District, according to a Alabama Reflector report. The order made the 2nd Congressional District lean Democrat, according to the outlet.
In response, Moore ran in the newly drawn 1st District in 2024 and unseated former incumbent Republican Rep. Jerry Carl of Mobile in a heated primary.
By entering the race, Moore joins a growing field of candidates vying for Tuberville’s soon-to-be-vacant seat.
Among the Republicans, Moore faces Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, a seasoned statewide candidate who was first elected in 2018 and reelected in 2022.
