Medical personnel at the scene suspect that the incident began when a firework went off in the hand of a 14-year-old boy.

He was initially treated on-site by emergency medical staff before being transported to a trauma center for further care. The specifics of how the firework exploded are still under investigation.

The explosion resulted in significant casualties, with two confirmed fatalities and 22 others injured.

Many of those injured were treated at the scene, while others were transported to local hospitals for further evaluation and treatment.

In response to the incident, the Honolulu Police Department has urged residents and visitors to avoid the area around Keaka Drive as they continue to provide care and secure the scene.

While the exact circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear, local officials are focusing on providing assistance to the victims and preventing further incidents in the area.
