Captured on a Ring surveillance camera, the footage shows the bear casually strolling onto the patio of a home, sniffing around as if it belonged there.

With an inquisitive air, the bear examined the doorbell, gently nudging it with its snout before standing upright on its hind legs.

Then, with an impressive show of dexterity, it pressed its paw against the button—triggering the chime and appearing momentarily startled by the sound.

After taking a step back, seemingly surprised by the doorbell’s ring, the bear paused to assess the situation.

It peered through a nearby window as though waiting for someone to answer the door. When no one came, it nonchalantly turned its attention to a new object of fascination: the family’s hot tub.

Lumbering over to the covered spa, the bear placed its paws on the top and gave it a few curious prods with its snout.

“At least he was polite enough to ring the doorbell to see if we were home,” homeowner Jay Lievens posted on Facebook, adding a dose of humor to the otherwise surreal moment.

New Hampshire is no stranger to black bear encounters. According to the state’s Fish and Game Department, there are approximately 5,000 black bears roaming the Granite State. While their presence is common, such human-like behavior continues to surprise and delight residents.

Despite their frequency in the region, black bears are typically docile and non-aggressive.

In fact, according to the Fish and Game Department, not a single person has been killed by a bear in New Hampshire since 1784.

Still, wildlife experts caution that bears are powerful creatures and should be treated with respect and caution. Even the cutest backyard visitor comes equipped with sharp teeth and claws.
