Political commentator Scott Jennings said a major shift within the U.S. medical establishment has fundamentally altered the national debate over gender transition surgeries for minors, arguing that two of the country’s most influential medical organizations have now publicly acknowledged a lack of scientific evidence supporting such procedures.
Jennings pointed to recent positions taken by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Medical Association, saying both organizations have concluded that gender transition surgeries for minors are not supported by sufficient evidence and should generally be postponed until adulthood.
“It is a political earthquake. Two of the most powerful medical institutions in the United States just blew up one of the left’s most protected sacred cows, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Medical Association have now both gone on the record saying the same thing,” Jennings said.

According to Jennings, the significance of the shift lies in who is making the determination and how it contrasts with prior messaging.
“There is insufficient evidence to justify gender transition surgeries for minors, and these surgeries should generally be deferred to adulthood,” he said.
“That’s not conservative media, that’s not Republicans, that’s not Donald Trump making a social media post, that is the medical establishment finally backing away.”
Jennings highlighted warnings issued by plastic surgeons nationwide, emphasizing the permanent nature of the procedures and the absence of reliable long-term data.

“The plastic surgeons, 11,000 of them, now warn that chest, genital and facial surgeries for minors are irreversible and unsupported by solid, long term evidence,” he said.
He also criticized what he described as years of suppression surrounding uncertainty in the field, saying the American Medical Association has now publicly acknowledged gaps in knowledge that activists attempted to minimize.
“And the AMA, for the first time, is saying out loud what trans cult activists spent years trying to suppress that we don’t actually know,” Jennings said.
“If any of this helps kids and we shouldn’t be mutilating them while we figure it out.”
Jennings characterized the developments as a collapse of a long-standing narrative that portrayed broad medical consensus in favor of pediatric gender transition surgeries.
“This is a total collapse of a narrative,” he said.
He noted that the AMA previously played a key role in opposing state-level efforts to restrict such procedures, and that its positions were frequently used by the media to reinforce claims of expert agreement.
“Now the AMA is enormous. The AMA the American Medical Association, was among the leading groups opposing laws trying to restrict gender affirming surgeries for minors just a few years ago, and the media would regularly cite the AMA to create an impression of expert consensus on this issue,” Jennings said.
Jennings argued that the reversal was not driven by new scientific discoveries, but by a reevaluation of claims that were never supported by robust evidence.
“The current shift isn’t based on any significant change in the data available. The data really has always been non existent,” he said.
He concluded by asserting that past medical guidance caused lasting harm and was shaped more by political pressure than by science.
“This all speaks volumes about how previous recommendations that ruined countless lives were based on politics instead of sound science,” Jennings said.
