Accusations of “hypocrisy” are to a politician as water is to a duck. Besides, there’s a more precise principle undergirding Democrat and Republican behavior alike. Party members approach politics as players on a team. With few exceptions, they proceed according to a simple test: Is it good for us? Is it bad for them?
Enter: House Minority Leader and Democratic New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries. In a recent CNN appearance, Jeffries warns of a Republican plan to “disenfranchise millions of voters … as part of a scheme to rig the midterm elections.” In the same interview, he vaunts a Democrat plan to “ensure that we maximize fairness in those jurisdictions.” The plans are (basically) identical.
