Two staffers from the Israeli Embassy were shot and killed outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez, was captured on video being detained shortly after the shooting, during which he shouted pro-Palestinian slogans.
The fatal incident occurred just after 9 p.m. outside the museum, which was hosting an event organized by the American Jewish Committee.

Witnesses say Rodriguez was seen pacing near the building prior to the shooting and allegedly displayed a handgun before opening fire.
D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith stated during a press conference that Rodriguez approached a group of four individuals outside the museum and displayed the firearm before carrying out the attack.
Witness video recorded by attendee Katie Kalisher shows Rodriguez being restrained by a security guard wearing a Metropolitan Police tactical vest.
The video captures the moment the guard secured Rodriguez’s hands behind his back with the assistance of two civilians.

The suspect was then seen shouting “Free, free Palestine” while being escorted out of the building.

Kalisher told the BBC that she was attending the American Jewish Committee’s Young Diplomats Reception when she heard the gunfire.
According to her, Rodriguez entered the museum afterward appearing “distressed,” prompting guests to assume he needed assistance.
Another witness, Yoni Kalin, also inside at the time, said attendees brought the suspect water and tried to calm him down.
“People were calming him down, bringing him water, taking care of him,” Kalin said.
“Little did we know he was somebody that executed people in cold blood.”
Kalin stated that Rodriguez later revealed to police he had carried out the attack “for Gaza.”
The suspect reportedly pulled out a red keffiyeh and told officers, “I did this for Gaza. Free Palestine. There’s only one solution, intifada revolution,” before continuing to repeat “Free Palestine.”
Kalin, speaking with the Associated Press, said he found it particularly shocking that the attack occurred at an event focused on humanitarian cooperation.
“How can we actually help both the people in Gaza and the people in Israel?” he asked.
“How can we bring together Muslims and Jews and Christians to work together to actually help innocent people? And then here he is just murdering two people in cold blood.”
The Israeli Embassy identified the victims on Thursday as Yaron Lischinsky, 28, and Sarah Milgrim.
The two were in a relationship and reportedly planning to get engaged in Jerusalem next week.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Lischinsky had served in the Israel Defense Forces for three years before joining the embassy’s Political Department as a research assistant in September 2022.
Milgrim held degrees from the University of Kansas and American University and had been working in the embassy’s Department of Public Diplomacy since November 2023.
President Donald Trump responded to the incident on Truth Social, writing: “These horrible DC killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW! Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed she was on scene with former Judge Jeanine Pirro, who now serves as the U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. Pirro’s office is expected to oversee the prosecution of the case.
