Putting Trans Women in Women’s Prisons is a Terrible Idea

This story is making the rounds today but only at a few outlets. It concerns an ex-con named Mozzy Clark who just sued the state of Washington and the state department of corrections over being forced to share a cell with a violent male convict who identified as trans. Clark claims this led to months of sexual harassment and incidents of assault by her trans-identified cellmate.

The 35-year-old Christopher Scott Williams, who has not changed his name but identifies as female, received a transfer to the women’s prison, where the felon allegedly quickly started harassing and threatening a female cellmate, according to a federal lawsuit against the State of Washington, its Department of Corrections and several prison officials.

Referring to the defendant as “Mr. Williams” in a 13-page civil complaint, the plaintiff is accusing prison officials of depriving her of her constitutional rights, cruel and unusual punishment, and failing to acknowledge the risks of putting a “fully intact biological male” with a violent history of sex assault “in a cage” with women.

“Prison officials were well aware that allowing biological males into a female prison creates a substantially increased risk of harm to female prisoners, including intimidation, violence, and sexual assault,” her lawsuit reads…

“My experience at WCCW was a nightmare,” Clark said Monday. “I lived in constant fear, knowing that those who were supposed to protect me not only ignored my pleas for help but enabled my abuser. This cannot continue to happen to others.”

The New York Post has more on what Clark experienced according to the legal complaint.

Clark claimed Williams, who slept above her in the top bunk, would threaten to rape her, leer at her in the shower, and constantly ask for sex — once with a homemade dildo he had brought into the cell, according to the lawsuit.

“In their cell, Ms. Clark was on the bottom bunk. Mr. Williams … would hover menacingly over Ms. Clark’s bunk with an erection while touching himself. He would also display his erection to Ms. Clark against her will, and gesture towards it, saying how much he wanted her,” the lawsuit alleged.

“One night, Ms. Clark woke up and saw inmate Williams sitting on the floor next to her bed with his arm under her blanket, rubbing her genitals,” the lawsuit adds.

Clark said the guards did little to protect her when she complained. Eventually Williams was moved to a separate cell, but the inmate would seek her out, stare at her in the showers, and follow her into the bathroom — making perverted comments from the next stall, the documents alleged.

Williams, who has never adopted a female name, has a long history of offenses against women, starting when he was 16-year-old.

At 16-years-old, Williams sexually assaulted his nine-year-old sister by rubbing her buttocks and vaginal area over her clothing. Williams was arrested and originally charged with first-degree child molestation in 2006 and pleaded guilty to third-degree assault with sexual motivation, according to police reports obtained by National Review…

After being convicted, Williams was required to register as a sex offender, but he didn’t report to the sheriff’s office where he resides. He was convicted in 2009 and 2010 of failing to register as a sex offender, a class C felony.

In 2012 he was convicted again of domestic violence for hitting his then girlfriend in the head with a pipe. That same year, while in a men’s prison, he beat a prison official unconscious with his fists, breaking his nose and bones in his face. It was after this that he was transferred to a women’s prison because of his self-ID as female.

Placing violent male prisoners in women’s prisons is idiotic and dangerous. Hopefully this lawsuit will be successful and a multi-million payout will cause the Washington state DOC to reconsider their policy.
