A man attending an anti-ICE protest in Portland, Oregon, accidentally set himself on fire while attempting to burn an American flag during a demonstration Saturday night.
The incident occurred during a large protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement policies in the city.
The demonstration drew a crowd of activists and counter-protesters, as well as independent journalists documenting the event.

Independent journalist Not Tina Kotex livestreamed the protest from the scene.
The stream showed demonstrators gathered in Portland, sometimes referred to as the Rose City, where protesters were seen waving Pride flags, chanting slogans, and confronting journalists covering the event.
The protest was organized around opposition to immigration enforcement carried out by the Trump administration.
During the livestream, a man within the crowd attempted to burn an American flag as part of the demonstration.
This Could Be the Most Important Video Gun Owners Watch All Year
Video captured by Kotex shows the individual igniting the flag before the situation quickly escalated.
Instead of successfully burning the flag, the flames spread to the man’s clothing. Footage shows fire igniting on his left leg as nearby individuals watched the situation unfold.
Witnesses can be heard reacting in the video as the man struggled to extinguish the flames.
“What an idiot!” one nearby witness can be heard saying as the protester attempted to put out the fire.
“So f**king stupid,” the same witness added.
The video shows the man attempting to put out the flames as they spread around him and onto the ground.
After several seconds, he was able to extinguish the fire on his clothing and the flames surrounding him.
No serious injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Portland has seen repeated protests related to immigration enforcement and federal policy in recent years.
Demonstrations in the city frequently draw large crowds and often attract activists from a range of political groups.
Anti-ICE demonstrations in the city have taken place in response to enforcement actions carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal agency responsible for immigration enforcement and investigations.
In many cases, protests in Portland have also drawn the attention of various activist groups and counter-protesters.
Demonstrations sometimes include confrontations between participants, journalists, and bystanders.
Saturday night’s protest followed a similar pattern, with demonstrators gathering in large numbers and journalists livestreaming events as they unfolded.
Kotex’s livestream captured multiple moments from the protest, including confrontations between protesters and members of the media who were attempting to document the event.
Video footage showed demonstrators shouting at journalists and challenging their presence as they filmed the protest.
The flag-burning attempt quickly became one of the most widely circulated moments from the livestream.
Clips of the incident began circulating online after the footage was shared across social media platforms.
Flag burning has historically been used as a form of political protest in the United States.
Demonstrators at protests across the country have sometimes used the act to express opposition to government policies or political leaders.
In this case, however, the protester’s attempt to burn the flag resulted in the flames spreading to his own clothing before the fire was extinguished.
Authorities did not announce any arrests connected specifically to the flag-burning incident captured in the video.
The protest itself was part of a broader series of demonstrations that have taken place in Portland over immigration policy and enforcement activities.
Officials have not released additional information about the identity of the individual involved in the incident.
