Elon Musk has threatened legal action against former Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., after Bowman used a CNN appearance to label Musk a “Nazi” and a “thief.”
The remarks came during a roundtable discussion on CNN, where Bowman criticized Musk’s leadership and his impact on employees at Twitter, now X.
On Friday, Musk responded to a clip of the discussion on X, writing, “I’ve had enough. Lawsuit inbound.”
Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’
This response followed Bowman’s accusation that Musk was not trustworthy and lacked competence in his role at the helm of X.
Bowman claimed during the interview, “The American people do not trust Elon Musk and Elon Musk is incompetent in his position. How do we know? Because they fired tens of thousands of people, were challenged in court. The court said the people have to go back, and now the people are coming back.” He then went on to label Musk, stating, “He’s incompetent. He’s a thief. He’s a Nazi. And people don’t trust him.”

Musk has faced similar accusations in the past, including accusations from left-wing media outlets that he performed a “Nazi salute” when addressing a crowd on Trump’s Inauguration Day.
Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, publicly supported her son, calling for legal action against CNN and other media outlets for spreading the “Nazi salute” narrative.
Bowman, who was a member of the progressive “Squad” in the House of Representatives, has been vocal about his criticism of Israel, particularly during its conflict with Hamas.
He accused the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) of spending millions to sway voters against him in his failed bid for re-election in New York’s 16th congressional district.
Bowman lost his Democratic primary last July to George Latimer, a pro-Israel centrist.
In 2023, Bowman was censured by the House for pulling a fire alarm in the Capitol to disrupt government shutdown negotiations, a controversial act that added to his notoriety.
His comments about Musk have sparked backlash, especially from conservatives who have rallied behind Musk’s potential lawsuit.
Journalist Andy Ngo, known for his confrontation with Antifa members in Portland in 2019, supported Musk’s response.
He wrote on X, “Accusing people of crimes is not protected opinion. CNN is putting itself at risk of liability for bringing on guests who repeat potentially defamatory claims unchallenged.”

Support for Musk also came from prominent Republican figures. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, urged Musk to take legal action, writing, “Sue him! Defamation against conservatives can’t go unaddressed or it will never end.”

As the situation develops, Musk’s legal threats have ignited further debates over freedom of speech, media responsibility, and the balance of power in American politics, particularly regarding the influence of tech leaders and progressive politicians.
