Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), a member of the progressive “Squad,” delivered an expletive-filled speech during the People’s Conference for Palestine in Detroit on Sunday, lashing out at Israel, pro-Israel politicians, and the United States government, as reported by Fox News.

Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American elected to Congress, spoke to a cheering audience while attacking U.S. and Israeli leaders. “I want to say to all of them, every genocide enabler, look at this room motherf**kers, we ain’t going anywhere,” she shouted.

She continued, “They thought they could rape us, kill us, violently uproot us from our olive tree farms, starve our children to death, and we would disappear. Well, guess what, now we’re in Congress, and we’re in every corner of the United States. We are just getting started.”

Tlaib also criticized the U.S. government as an “empire in Washington, D.C.,” claiming, “the political structures that I have to work in, that we all are surrounded by, was built on slavery and genocide and rape and oppression.”

Referencing the Trump administration, Tlaib declared, “what’s been tested on the killing fields of Gaza is already being deployed right here in the streets of America.” She added, “What our government is willing to do to Palestinians, they are willing to do to all of you.”

The Michigan lawmaker argued that U.S. foreign policy toward Israel is connected to domestic issues.

“It is no surprise to me, as the daughter of Detroit, that I see our government, that has supplied the bombs and excuses Israel from destroying literally every single day hospitals, communities in Gaza, and manufacturing mass starvation, is also the same government that’s defunding healthcare and food assistance programs here in our country,” she said.

“Gaza is the compass in this country.”

Tlaib has faced bipartisan criticism in the past for comments related to Israel, including a 2023 House censure over her use of the slogan “From the river to the sea,” a phrase widely condemned as antisemitic.

The People’s Conference for Palestine, organized by more than a dozen pro-Palestinian groups, ran from Friday through Sunday. It drew controversy for featuring speakers with extremist backgrounds, including two former Israeli prisoners released in a Hamas deal.

The event opened Friday with a ceremony where attendees were asked to stand for “our national anthem” as a band played a foreign-language song. Participants wearing keffiyehs marched in carrying Palestinian flags.

During a panel, Sachin Peddada, a Ph.D. student in economics and research coordinator at Progressive International, called the United States “evil.”

He told the audience, “destroy the idea of America in Americans’ heads so that they can see the humanity of everybody outside the warping of American exceptionalism and imperialism.”

“To obfuscate that point or beat around the bush there does not serve us; we live in an evil country, that’s just what’s happening,” Peddada said to applause from the crowd.
