Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters announced Tuesday that every high school in the state will establish a Turning Point USA chapter, a move he said is designed to promote free speech, civic engagement, and honest discussions about America’s history and values.
Walters said the initiative comes in response to strong interest from parents, teachers, and students who want to see more opportunities for open dialogue in schools.
“I’m excited to announce today that every Oklahoma high school will have a turning point. USA chapter,” Walters stated.
“We have seen the outpouring from parents, teachers and students that want to be engaged in a meaningful work going on at turning point. They want their young people to be engaged in a process that understands free speech, open engagement, dialog about American greatness, a dialog around American values. We’re so excited to partner with turning point USA with this initiative.”
The superintendent said the program is intended to push back against the influence of what he called radical agendas in the classroom.
“For far too long, we have seen radical leftists with the teachers union dominate classrooms and push woke indoctrination on our kids,” Walters said.
“They fight parents rights, they push parents out in the classroom, and they lie to our kids about American history.”

Walters emphasized that the Turning Point USA partnership is part of a broader effort to ensure students are exposed to open debate and are encouraged to develop an appreciation for the nation’s founding principles.
“What we’re going to continue to do is make sure that our kids understand American greatness, engage in civic dialog and have that open discussion,” he continued.
“We will continue to do all that we can to make sure Oklahoma students have the best education possible.”

Turning Point USA, founded in 2012, is a national student organization known for promoting conservative principles and free market ideas on high school and college campuses.
With this announcement, Oklahoma becomes the first state to mandate the presence of a Turning Point chapter in every public high school.
The initiative is set to begin in the 2024–2025 school year.
State education officials said they will work with local districts to facilitate the launch of the chapters, while also ensuring parents and students are able to actively participate in shaping the programs.
Walters said the decision reflects a broader push to empower families and students in Oklahoma’s education system, highlighting what he described as a need for a clear alternative to left-leaning narratives in classrooms.
By expanding Turning Point USA’s reach into every high school, Walters said Oklahoma intends to reinforce the importance of civic dialogue, free speech, and a deeper understanding of American history.
