Rep. Ilhan Omar is facing renewed criticism from conservatives and law enforcement advocates after comments she made following two separate shootings involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis and Portland last week, as reported by Fox News.
The backlash intensified after Omar appeared at protests in Minneapolis over the weekend, where video footage showed her addressing demonstrators amid heightened tensions surrounding Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.
Critics have accused the Minnesota Democrat of “inciting violence” through her rhetoric, pointing to both her public remarks at protests and statements made in media interviews.
In one widely circulated video, Omar was seen riding in the back of a pickup truck, leading protesters through Minneapolis streets.
Speaking to a cheering crowd, Omar declared, “We are going to make sure that these people pay for what they have done to us.”
In another clip from the same event, she said, “We are going to show all of them the door out. And we are going to make sure that these people pay for what they have done to us! We are committed to this resistance!”

Omar also joined two other Democratic members of Congress over the weekend in a visit to a Minneapolis detention facility at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, where they were surrounded by protesters and ICE hecklers.
While speaking to reporters, Omar accused the Trump administration and ICE officials of “disappearing people” while operating “in the darkness.”
Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin responded to that accusation, calling it a “lie” intended to “demonize” federal immigration officials.
Conservative activist and media personality David Harris sharply criticized Omar’s comments, accusing her of misleading the public. “LYING through her teeth!” Harris said in response to her remarks.
Other critics pointed to a cable news interview Omar gave last week following the Minneapolis shooting. During an appearance with Jake Tapper on CNN, Omar accused ICE officials of “murder.”
“ICE has been carrying out state-sanctioned violence in our communities,” Omar told Tapper.
“We have seen them terrorize so many citizens in the Fifth District and across Minnesota, and that has tragically led to this murder that we all watched on TV.”
Federal officials have said the agent involved in the Minneapolis shooting acted in self-defense, a claim Democratic leaders have rejected.
Conservative political strategist Steve Guest criticized Omar’s comments following the interview. “Ilhan Omar pours gas on the fire that Minnesota Democrats are building, accusing ICE of committing ‘murder’ in Minneapolis,” Guest said.
James Gagliano, director of the pro-police Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, also condemned Omar’s remarks.
“This is an elected official — a member of Congress — spouting utterly inflammatory and incendiary and repugnant falsehoods to a cable news anchor,” Gagliano said. “The officer is also entitled to due process.”
Gagliano added, “Omar can work to change the laws if she disagrees with them. She hasn’t, and she won’t. These federal agents are enforcing OUR laws — ones passed by the U.S. Congress. How irresponsible and reckless to make these unchallenged statements on television.”
Conservative influencer Benny Johnson also weighed in during the weekend protests, saying, “Ilhan Omar is now on the ground with left-wing protestors in Minneapolis. And you guessed it, she’s encouraging violence against ICE.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Omar for comment, but did not receive a response.
