President Donald Trump was asked on Monday by a ZeroHedge reporter whether he would order an investigation into explosions that damaged two Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022.
The Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines were rendered useless in a Sept. 26, 2022, bombing that was widely blamed on Russia at the time. Trump had previously expressed skepticism that Russia was responsible for the act, and he was asked if he would order a probe into the pipeline’s destruction during an event to announce that the 2027 NFL draft would be held on the National Mall. “If I asked certain people, I’d be able to tell you without having to waste money on an investigation,” Trump said. “But I think a lot of people know who blew it up, but I was the one who blew it up originally because I wouldn’t let it be built, but when Biden got in, he allowed it to be built.”

During his first term, Trump opposed the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The Biden administration eventually allowed its completion, with the pipeline coming online in September 2021. The pipeline was sabotaged seven months after Russia’s Feb. 24, 2022, invasion of Ukraine.
“It’s very interesting, but I think Russia, with the price of oil right now – oil has gone down – I think we’re in a good position to settle. They want to settle, Ukraine wants to settle. If I weren’t president, nobody would be settling,” Trump said. “They are losing 5,000 people a day. Think of it, here we talk about football. They are losing 5,000 people on average a week, mostly Russian soldiers and Ukrainian soldiers. 5,000 a week, not including people that are killed as missiles go into areas they shouldn’t be.”
“It’s a very terrible thing. I think we have come a long way, and it could be something will happen, hopefully it will,” Trump continued. “President Putin just announced a three-day cease-fire, which doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a lot if you knew where we started from… We had a president that for three years didn’t speak to Putin, and it all shouldn’t have happened. This is a war that should have never happened.”
