Reports NYC Shooter as ‘Possibly White’ Despite Photo [WATCH]

A gunman opened fire inside a Midtown Manhattan office building on Monday, killing five people and wounding at least one other, including two NYPD officers.

One of the officers was fatally shot.

The suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor of the building located at 345 Park Avenue, which houses the NFL’s headquarters and Blackstone investment offices.

The shooting began shortly after 6:30 p.m. in the building’s lobby at the corner of Park Avenue and 52nd Street.

Witnesses and law enforcement sources reported that the gunman entered the building armed with a rifle and began firing in the lobby, striking multiple victims.

After the initial shootings, the suspect moved to another floor, where he shot more individuals before taking an elevator to the 33rd floor and turning the weapon on himself.

Fox News confirmed the death toll had risen to five by Monday night, citing law enforcement officials.

One of the deceased victims was an NYPD officer assigned to a detail at the building.

A second officer was also shot and hospitalized.

The identities of the victims and the gunman have not yet been publicly released, but authorities indicated the suspect acted alone.

Footage captured by a FOX 5 NY employee showed police officers carrying a wounded person and rendering aid to others lying on the ground outside the building.

Emergency services, including police, fire, and EMS units, responded immediately to the scene, shutting down the surrounding area as the investigation unfolded.

During the initial response, media outlets speculated about the identity of the shooter.

CNN law enforcement analyst John Miller described the suspect as “a male, possibly white,” and added that he was “wearing sunglasses” and “appears to have a mustache.”

CNN host Erin Burnett repeated that description.

Miller prefaced the comments by acknowledging that authorities did not yet know the identity of the suspect.

That description was circulated among law enforcement across the city as the search was underway.

Later developments confirmed that authorities had already obtained a photograph of the suspect during the manhunt, raising questions about the initial speculation aired publicly by CNN.

The suspect was ultimately found dead on the 33rd floor from what police determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The NYPD and FBI are currently conducting a joint investigation into the shooting.

Authorities indicated that surveillance footage from inside the building is being reviewed and that a full timeline of events will be made available once confirmed.

Mayor Eric Adams was briefed on the incident and asked New Yorkers to avoid the area while first responders completed their work.

Emergency crews remained on-site into the evening as officers processed the scene and conducted interviews with witnesses.

The NYPD is expected to hold a formal press conference Tuesday to provide further updates, including the identities of the victims and more details about the suspect.
