Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., joined by NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, announced Tuesday that the COVID-19 vaccine will no longer be recommended on the CDC’s immunization schedule for healthy children and pregnant women.

The decision marks a significant shift in federal public health policy, reversing course from the Biden-Harris administration’s earlier push for widespread pediatric vaccination against COVID-19.

In a public statement, Kennedy declared, “Hi everybody. I’m Robert F. Kennedy Jr., your HHS Secretary, and I’m here today with NIH Director, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary. I couldn’t be more pleased to announce that as of today, the COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from the CDC recommended immunization schedule.”

Kennedy criticized the previous administration’s push for additional COVID shots in children without robust scientific backing.

“Last year, the Biden administration urged healthy children to get yet another COVID shot, despite the lack of any clinical data to support the repeat booster strategy in children,” he said.

Dr. Bhattacharya added, “That ends today. It’s common sense and it’s good science.”

His remarks reflect growing concerns among health experts about the justification and long-term impact of vaccinating children with limited supporting data.

Dr. Makary also addressed the scientific rationale behind the change, stating, “There’s no evidence healthy kids need it today, and most countries have stopped recommending it for children.”

He highlighted the global trend of reevaluating pediatric COVID vaccination strategies in light of updated risk assessments and evolving data.

Kennedy emphasized that the move represents a concrete step toward fulfilling President Donald Trump’s commitment to restoring sound medical policy and prioritizing the well-being of American families.

“We’re now one step closer to realizing President Trump’s promise to make America healthy again,” Kennedy said.

The updated recommendation removes the COVID-19 vaccine from the CDC’s schedule for healthy demographics that have shown low risk from the virus, including children and pregnant women without underlying health conditions.

The change does not impact the availability of the vaccine for higher-risk individuals or those who choose to receive it voluntarily.

The announcement comes amid ongoing national debate over vaccine mandates, school requirements, and parental choice in medical decisions.

With this policy shift, the administration signals its intent to ground public health decisions in clinical evidence and reevaluate pandemic-era guidelines that have remained in place despite changing circumstances.
