U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced Wednesday that Starbucks will align its food and beverage offerings with the Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) initiative.

The campaign, launched earlier this year, focuses on eliminating harmful ingredients from the nation’s food supply in an effort to combat chronic childhood illnesses and promote long-term public health.

Kennedy shared the update in a post on X, following a meeting with Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol on Tuesday.

According to Kennedy, the coffee chain is taking steps to further incorporate the MAHA framework into its menu strategy.

“Pleased to learn that Starbucks’ food and beverages already avoid artificial dyes, artificial flavors, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, and other additives,” Kennedy wrote.

Starbucks confirmed the meeting and acknowledged its ongoing efforts to simplify and improve its menu.

The company has already reduced its U.S. menu offerings by 30 percent to streamline operations and has begun testing new drink options that focus on nutrition, including a sugar-free vanilla latte with added protein.

“Our diverse menu of high-quality foods and beverages empowers customers to make informed nutritional decisions, with transparency on ingredients, calories, and more,” the company said in a statement to Fox Business.

“Plus, we keep it real—no high fructose corn syrup, artificial dyes, flavors, or artificial trans fats.”

The company’s changes are consistent with the Department of Health and Human Services’ broader MAHA policy goals.

The MAHA initiative, launched under the direction of President Donald Trump, aims to reform the American food system by addressing the root causes of chronic disease and food-related health conditions.

Key areas of focus include eliminating synthetic ingredients, enhancing food labeling standards, and increasing corporate transparency around food sourcing and preparation.

In April, Kennedy and the Food and Drug Administration announced a phased national ban on petroleum-based synthetic dyes in food products.

The voluntary rollout, supported by the food industry, is scheduled to take place over the next two years.

Major food manufacturers General Mills and Kraft Heinz have also committed to removing FD&C artificial dyes from their products by 2026.

Kennedy has referred to synthetic food dyes as “poisonous compounds,” stating that they “offer no nutritional benefit and pose real, measurable dangers to our children’s health and development.”

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the MAHA initiative is intended to “lead a coordinated transformation of our food, health, and scientific systems.”

The department’s stated goal is to ensure that “all Americans — today and in the future — live longer, healthier lives, supported by systems that prioritize prevention, well-being, and resilience.”

The initiative is also part of a broader push by the Trump administration to improve national health outcomes by focusing on preventative care and nutrition, particularly in children.

The program has emphasized collaboration with major corporations and food producers to accelerate changes in product formulation and food labeling.

Kennedy has met with a number of top executives across the food and beverage sector in recent weeks, as the Department of Health and Human Services continues its outreach to bring the industry in line with MAHA standards.

The collaboration with Starbucks marks one of the most high-profile partnerships to date.
