Richard Gere Claims Trump Nearly Destroyed America In Just Six Months [WATCH]

Hollywood actor Richard Gere criticized President Donald Trump during a charity event in Spain this week, claiming the president has “almost destroyed” the United States just six months into his second term, as reported by Fox News.

Gere made the remarks Monday while attending a fundraising dinner for Open Arms, a Spanish non-governmental organization that conducts search and rescue operations at sea. Speaking to Europa Press, Gere said, “Six months, he’s almost destroyed our country.”

When asked whether recent events in the United States concerned him, Gere responded, “Of course. We have a president who’s completely — he’s not only crazy, he’s a dark, dark presence. And it’s happened so quickly.”

The White House declined a request for comment from Fox News Digital regarding Gere’s remarks.

In the same interview, Gere criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, insisting, “He’s got to go. This is not someone who can change. He has to go, and all the enablers in the coalition that he has together, they all have to go.”

Gere has made similar comments before. At an anti-Israel benefit concert in the United Kingdom in September, he said, “Of course, Netanyahu has to go. All the enablers have to go, also,” and added that Trump should stop the war in Gaza.

“There’s one man who could stop this thing in one day. He says he can stop wars in one day, my President Trump. In one day he could stop all this craziness. Netanyahu needs the U.S., needs Trump so badly. One day, if he wants a Nobel Peace Prize, this is how to get it,” Gere said at the concert.

The actor has joined Artists4Ceasefire, a coalition of entertainers urging a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. The group, which formed after Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, has called for the release of hostages taken in the assault as well as humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

Gere, who relocated to Spain with his family earlier this year, has repeatedly voiced political criticism since the move. In February, while accepting a lifetime achievement award at the Goya Awards in Spain, he used his speech to denounce President Trump.

“I’m coming from a place now that we’re in a very dark place in America, where we have a bully and a thug who is the president of the United States,” Gere told the audience.

“Authoritarianism takes us all over. We have to be vigilant. We have to be alert. We have to be energetic. We have to be brave. We have to be courageous.”

He continued by urging viewers around the world to “stand up, tell the truth, be honest” and promote “basic kindness, basic love and understanding.”
