A group of left-wing protestors left a coffin at the home of Republican Wisconsin Rep. Bryan Steil last week, the congressman confirmed Wednesday.
The protesters, wearing black and carrying a cardboard coffin, orchestrated a mock funeral procession in front of the congressman’s Wisconsin home, according to surveillance video obtained by Fox News. They left the coffin and an epitaph at the front door of the residence, Fox News Digital reported. Former Walworth County Democrat Party Chairwoman Ellen Holly allegedly took part in the “Death of Democracy” protest, which the Southern Wisconsin Grassroots Network and Working Families Party both sponsored. The Town Hall Coalition: WI 1st Con District, which identifies itself as a political organization, posted what appears to be an image of the coffin in front of the congressman’s door Sunday on Facebook. “Here lie the hopes of the most vulnerable killed by the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ signed into law by President Donald J. Trump and endorsed by lyin’ [sic] Bryan Steil. RIP democracy 1776-2025,” words on the coffin read.
“It’s disappointing that Democrat leadership and the radical left resort to these type of tactics,” Steil, who oversees the Committee on House Administration, told Fox News Digital. “I remain committed to my work to get this country back on track and will not be deterred by their threats.”
National Press Secretary Ravi Mangla of Working Families Power claimed the protest was not as bad as the representative’s policies. “17 million Americans are going to lose life-saving medical care because of Bryan Steil’s vote,” Mangla wrote in a statement. “Frankly, that’s a far scarier thing than a group of seniors holding some taped together cardboard.”
The Committee on House Administration has been cooperating with Republicans and Democrats to handle rising threats to member of Congress and their staff, according to the outlet. Congress recently okayed more money for the Member Security Allotment and the Monitoring and Maintenance Allotment.
The group is pressing for protests at a Thursday town hall Steil will personally attend, the outlet reported.
